(This title is available on demand: expected date of dispatch will be 4-7 working days once ordered) Grave Visions by Kalayna Price is the much-anticipated fourth instalment in the kick-ass urban fantasy series about Alex Craft, a grave witch who can communicate with the dead. If you want to hear voices from the dead in Nekros City, you call Alex Craft. She's a Grave Witch with reasonable rates and extraordinary powers, who specializes in revealing the secrets of the dead. But now she's the one fighting to keep her own secret. She's not human - and her newly discovered heritage is causing havoc for her both in the human realm and in Faerie. But her status as an unaffiliated fae also makes her an ideal candidate to investigate a new street drug that has surfaced in several of the spaces between the human and fae worlds. This glamour-infused drug causes hallucinations that turn real - at least for a while and often with deadly consequences. Searching for the source of this drug - and its purpose - lands Alex front and center in the conflict brewing in Faerie and she must find answers before she's dragged so deep she loses her freedom. Praise for Kalayna Price: "Fascinating magic, a delicious heart-throb, and a fresh, inventive world." (Chloe Neill). Format:Paperback Pages:352

Subtitle: Philosophy From Cradle to Grave Author: Mark Rowlands Publisher: Granta Publications (2015) ISBN-10: 1847089526 ISBN-13: 9781847089526 Condition: As new Binding: Softcover Pages: 288 Dimensions: 21.5 x 13.5 x 2 cm +++ by Mark Rowlands +++ Myshkin was born on a certain day and died on a certain day - and some things happened to him in between. These things presented him with ethical questions and this book is a record of his attempt to answer those questions. Discovered by his son after Myshkin's death, A Good Life is one man's reckoning with the life he has led and the choices he made. It is at once a philosophical handbook for living and a page-turning narrative. A   Good Life   is one man's life (birth, death, education, religion, morality, illness and so on) told through a philosophical lens. It is a riveting examination of the ethical questions we face, and the decisions we must make, and a defence of the idea that at the beating heart of morality we find love. And it is written with the conviction that, on their own, moral rules and principles are childish things - risible and easily refuted. It is only a life in its entirety that can be morally judged. A Good Life is sometimes profoundly funny, sometimes deeply serious. It is as readable as a novel and as provocative as the best philosophy. It is the finest work to date by a charming and brilliant thinker.

The New York Times bestseller! "The Fight shines a much needed light on the troubling games DC politicians and insiders play with the American people." -Sean Hannity "The Fight is a lesson plan for fighting back against the Washington DC political machine." - Mark Levin In The Fight, Dan Bongino picks up the story where his New York Times bestselling book Life Inside the Bubble ends, tackling current political and security issues and offering new solutions. From Hillary's emails to the security failings at the White House (including the drone crash and the fence jumper); from Charlie Hebdo to Bowe Bergdahl--the author examines how our current administration has allowed our security efforts to lapse both at home and abroad. He also offers solutions to the growing terrorist threat and how we can protect American citizens while also deconstructing what's wrong with our political process and what his experience running for office has taught him. As a former member of the elite Presidential Protection Division who served three Presidents, Bongino is uniquely qualified to provide a view from behind the curtain to warn readers about the political system that is failing them, and the security future that won't protect them. The majority of Americans only come into contact with security when they fly or enter their workplace. They are rarely able to become acquainted with the politicians they know from robo-calls and TV ads. Bongino has experienced the inner-workings of the national security apparatus and the failed political theater that we all feel but rarely understand. Using a mix of current events, an insider's analysis, and tales from his time protecting the president, he shows where clear and foreseeable leadership failures from our current administration led to grave consequences. From a broken political process to a president who consistently misreads the American people, he shows us where America has gone wrong and how we can fight back. Like the mythic cities of Gotham or Gomorrah, London, Ontario was for many years an unrivalled breeding ground of depravity and villainy, the difference being that its monsters were all too real. In its coming to inherit the unwanted distinction of being the serial killer capital of not just Canada-but apparently also the world during this dark age in the city's sordid history- the crimes seen in London over this quarter-century period remain unparalleled and for the most part unsolved. From the earliest documented case of homicidal copycatting in Canada, to the fact that at any given time up to six serial killers were operating at once in the deceivingly serene "Forest City," London was once a place that on the surface presented a veneer of normality when beneath that surface dark things would whisper and stir. Through it all, a lone detective would go on to spend the rest of his life fighting against impossible odds to protect the city against a tidal wave of violence that few ever saw coming, and which to this day even fewer choose to remember. With his death in 2011, he took these demons to his grave with him but with a twist-a time capsule hidden in his basement, and which he intended to one day be opened. Contained inside: a secret cache of his diaries, reports, photographs, and hunches that might allow a new generation of sleuths to pick up where he left off, carry on his fight, and ultimately bring the killers to justice-killers that in many cases are still out there. Murder City is an explosive book over fifty years in the making, and is the history of London, Ontario as never told before. Stranger than fiction, tragic, ironic, horrifying, yet also inspiring, this is the true story of one city under siege, and a book that marks a game changer for the true crime genre.... It is ordered on demand from our supplier and is usually dispatched within 7 - 11 working days On a hot and dusty December day in 1980, the bodies of four American women-three of them Catholic nuns-were pulled from a hastily dug grave in a field outside San Salvador. They had been murdered two nights before by the US-trained El Salvadoran military. News of the killing shocked the American public and set off a decade of debate over Cold War policy in Latin America. The women themselves became symbols and martyrs, shorn of context and background. In A Radical Faith, journalist Eileen Markey breathes life back into one of these women, Sister Maura Clarke. Who was this woman in the dirt? What led her to this vicious death so far from home? Maura was raised in a tight-knit Irish immigrant community in Queens, New York, during World War II. She became a missionary as a means to a life outside her small, orderly world and by the 1970s was organizing and marching for liberation alongside the poor of Nicaragua and El Salvador. Maura's story offers a window into the evolution of postwar Catholicism: from an inward-looking, protective institution in the 1950s to a community of people grappling with what it meant to live with purpose in a shockingly violent world. At its heart, A Radical Faith is an intimate portrait of one woman's spiritual and political transformation and her courageous devotion to justice.  El Negro was the name given to a southern African man whose body was stolen from his grave in the early 19th century by two respected French naturalists. The body was stuffed in the same way that trophy animals are stuffed and sent to Europe to further the cause of scientific racism and to 'entertain' the public.  It eventually ended up in a glass case in a museum in a small Spanish town. In the 1990s, after a decade of protest and protracted political and diplomatic exchanges, it was finally agreed that the body be repatriated to Botswana.  In October 2000, El Negro was laid to rest in a sombre state burial in Gaborone, capital of Botswana.  It was then that the triumph for Africa turned sour. Although the true identity of the man has never been established, he has come to symbolise all those who were murdered, excavated and stolen from Africa by 19th century explorers and naturalists. In this carefully researched and immensely readable book, Caitlin Davies throws open the debate about what is appropriate in the name of 'science' where human remains are concerned.  In the process, she retraces El Negro's fateful journey to Europe, including a search for the missing grave goods without which it is believed the stolen man cannot rest in peace. Soft cover, very good condition.  The paper is browning a little.

That's the thread. Follow it. You'll reach the Silent Ones. This is your way - our way - of making a difference.' With this challenge from Father Edmund Littlemore, Anselm returns to the Old Bailey. The man in the dock is Littlemore himself. He is charged with grave offences against Harry Brandwell who, it seems, is both a victim and a liar. But he's the only link to these others who've chosen silence over their right to justice. Unknown to Anselm, Robert Sambourne, a journalist, has been investigating Littlemore's background. And he's a man with a troubled past, always on the move, from Boston in the USA to Freetown in Sierra Leone, finally running from a London police station rather than explain himself. More disturbingly, Robert uncovers details of a carefully planned scheme to entice Anselm back into court, exploiting his reputation for honesty to secure a shock acquittal. Meanwhile Harry Brandwell - abused, abandoned and betrayed - has decided to take matters into his own hands. The Silent Ones examines the one crime that Church, State and Family thought they could hide in their own best interests; Anselm's return is a compelling novel about the anatomy of silence, the courage of victims and the redemptive power of public justice.

Paperback. English. Picador Africa. 2011. 274pp. In good condition. Julius Malema has risen to prominence and power with meteoric speed. From impoverished origins in a Limpopo township, he has, before the age of 30, amassed the political and economic power to command the entire youth wing of the ANC, and to own several substantial luxury homes. The sources of his wealth are befogged by speculation and mystery, but his appeal to the massed ranks of the township and village poor of his country is visible for all to see. And his inflammatory style -- his 'theme song' is 'Shoot the Boer' -- his contrarian tendencies and his showmanship have rapidly brought him to the attention of the world. So troublesome has he become that the old guard of the ANC have gone to great lengths to shackle and reprimand him, and he is now formally in dispute with them. An Inconvenient Youth traces Malema's life, from his early years in Limpopo to his joining the student structures of the ANC in the early 1990s, and his rapid rise through the party's ranks to become the president of the ANC Youth League in 2008. Forde analyses the sources of Malema's wealth, exploring his seamless approach to business and politics. She situates Malema within the ANC's history and shows in unprecedented detail how he has perfected the practices that characterise a new 'struggle' in which individuals extend their personal wealth and political power at the expense of the people. This insightful, meticulously researched account explores how a brave child has grown to become a grave inconvenience, not only to the ANC, but also, due to his style of politics, to South Africa's fledgling democracy.

Crafting a foreign policy that effectively deals with North Korea, while still ensuring stability and security on the Korean Peninsula - and in Northeast Asia as a whole - has proved very challenging for successive American administrations. In the wake of ruler Kim Jong-il's death in December 2011, analysts and policymakers continue to speculate about the effect his last years as leader will have on the future of North Korea. Bruce Bechtol, Jr. contends that Kim Jong-il's regime (1994-2011) exacerbated the threats that North Korea posed, and still poses, to the world. Bechtol explains how North Korea presents important challenges on five key fronts: its evolving conventional military threat, its strategy in the Northern Limit Line (NLL) area, its nuclear capabilities, its support for terrorism, and its handling of the succession process. Bechtol's analysis clears up the persistent mystery of how Kim Jong-il's dysfunctional government in its final years was able to persist in power while both presenting a grave danger to its neighbors and setting the stage for the current government. This work addresses issues important for policymakers and academics who must deal with those in power in North Korea. Few fantasy adventures have ever captured the imagination the way Raymond E. Feist's magical Riftwar Saga has. Praised as a creation that "invites comparison with Tolkien's Lord of the Rings" The Riftwar Saga was the tale of a young sorcerer whose destiny would forever change the fate of two enchanted realms. — Now Raymond E. Feist returns to the world of that stunning creation with a novel as electrifying as any he has ever written. The twenty years which have passed since the end of the Riftwar have been quiet and prosperous. King Lyam has ruled the nation firmly and gently. Prince Arutha has justly governed the city of Krondor. Young Jimmy the Hand has evolved from a roof-running thief into Baron James, an invaluable aide to Arutha. But the years of tranquility are destined to end. For King Lyam has produced no heir and Arutha, heir apparent, has renounced his claim to the throne--leaving Arutha's son Borric next in line for the crown. Borric and his twin brother Erland have learned a great deal about brawling, wenching, and gambling...but little else. Now they must quickly master both maturity and statecraft.Meanwhile, on the kingdom's southern horizon, the Empress of Kesh is about to celebrate her Jubilee. Arutha decides to send Borric and Erland--this is precisely the kind of diplomatic mission that could turn his foolhardy boys into reasoning adults. But little does anyone know that a seething rebillion lies just under the surface in the Keshian provinces, and that devious and deadly intrigue is the game preferred by all in the Keshian court. When as assassination attempt is made on the twins' lives--by a member of the Keshian royal family--the two princes are faced with a deadly adventure...one that will take them into the dark heart of Kesh, where grave danger and strange magics lie in wait. The work of a master storyteller at the top of his form, Prince of the Blood is epic fantasy at its very best. Forward lean.

The prose is so electrifying... that, on more than one occasion, I found myself stopping to rub my eyes in disbelief' Parul Seghal, The New York Times 'Haunting, beautiful, and necessary' Buzzfeed 'Heir of Joyce and Kafka' Milan Kundera * * * A profoundly unsettling story of a plantation slave's desperate escape into a rainforest beyond human control, with his master and a ferocious dog on his heels. This flight to freedom takes them on a journey that will transform them all, as the overwhelming physical presence of the forest and its dense primeval wilderness reshapes reality and time itself. In the darkness, the old man grapples with the spirits of all those who have gone before him; the knowledge that the past is always with us, and the injustice that can cry out from beyond the grave. From a Prix Goncourt writer hailed by Milan Kundera as the "heir of Joyce and Kafka," The Old Slave and the Mastiff fearlessly portrays the demonic cruelties of the slave trade and its human costs -- a wise, loving tribute to the Creole culture of Martinique, and a vividly told journey into the heart of Caribbean history and human endurance.
