Since it's essentially a race game you hold the Wii Remote horizontally, as in racers such as Excite Truck, while the '1' button is used to grind, the '2' button to jump and the D-pad to select different tricks. It's all surprisingly intuitive and the way that performing tricks feeds your turbo boost bar is a clever mix of risk and reward. Although the tracks are pretty fantastical they're at least based on real cities, with a pleasing amount of shortcuts and secrets in what promises to be another top notch racer for the Wii. Most exciting moment: Although they're all downhill races of some sort the game includes many different types of competitions, from checkpoint races to slaloms and trick races. The most obviously amusing though is the "special" races which task you with knocking down pedestrians and road side bric-a-brac. Since you ask: The game is completely separate to Tony Hawk's Project 8 on the other home consoles. In actual fact it is a homage to the old Electronic Arts game Skate or Die! from 1987, which also features downhill skateboarding and is apparently the real Tony Hawk's favourite ever game. Once engaged, you'll pursue suspects through a dynamic city by taking shortcuts and using aggressive tactics as necessary to apprehend them. Two-player mode lets you roll with a partner; one handles the car while the other fires shots at fleeing vehicles. Review You really don't expect much from a game with the title World's Scariest Police Chases but against all the odds this is actually really good. The title of the game refers not to some sort of zombie-themed kart game but an ultra-cheesy American equivalent to the UK's own pretty cheddary Police Camera Action. This may sound like a pretty odd TV programme to make a game out of but cleverly Fox Interactive have turned the whole thing into a clone of Driver 2 --except without the clunky, jerky graphics. The bulk of the gameplay involves you chasing bad guys all over a massive city and repeatedly ramming into them until they stop. If you don't feel the public are put into enough danger by your driving alone you can also pull out a variety of weaponry to persuade the felons to mend their evil ways. Although there are only 20 of them all the missions are cleverly designed and there're even a few that don't involve massive amounts of auto destruction--although thankfully most do. So ignore the name and enjoy what's probably going to be one of the PS One's last great driving games. -- David Jenkins

Since they own the official license to The Lord of the Rings books (this game is not based directly on anything in the movies), a massively multiplayer online game to rival Blizzards blockbuster was all but inevitable. Angmar is the domain of the Witch-king, the leader of the Ringwraiths, and the game world is set during the events of The Fellowship of the Ring as Frodo and company set out from The Shire. In the game youll have the chance to meet all of the major characters as you play as any one of four races: human, elf, dwarf or hobbit. Your character can also be one of seven different classes from burglar to hunter or minstrel. Not all races can be all of the classes though, so you must choose carefully. In gameplay terms things work in a similar manner to World of Warcraft and other fantasy games, with up to six characters grouping to gather to form a "fellowship", which in turn can team up with up to 24 others to go on larger raids in enemy controlled areas. The game includes seven crafting professions and three gathering professions, allowing each character the chance to learn and utilise unique skills, from manufacturing armour to cooking. Player versus player combat is allowed to a degree; although instead of two player controlled characters facing off, one will temporarily take control of a monster for the duration of the fight. Whether the game can truly challenge the success of Warcraft remains to be seen, but if anyone can do it Tolkien can. HARRISON DENT

Although the latter was more commercially successful many have argued that The Sands of Time was the better game, with more involving puzzles and a more engaging main character. This second sequel aims to combine elements of both with the Prince returning to the besieged city of Babylon. In escaping from capture he inadvertently gives life to the Dark Prince an evil alter ego with quite different powers. As the game progress you can switch between the two characters by stepping into fire, with each using their different weapons in even more gruesome ways than before. The Dark Princes Daggertail is particularly deadly, being a sort of long spiky chain with a blade on the end that works rather like the whips from Castlevania. As the latest in a long line of games to take inspiration from Grand Theft Auto the whole game is set within the city of Babylon, which is yours to explore as you wish. Although there are no vehicles to carjack you can take part in some particularly brutal chariot races, if you get tired of walking and jumping around. Temple of Elemental Evil includes multiple scenarios, challenging quests, and co-operative game play designed for 1-5 players. The contents can also be combined with other D&D Adventure System Cooperative play board games, including The Legend of Drizzt and Castle Ravenloft. Each player selects a hero, such as a fighter, cleric, or wizard. On their turn, each player can explore further into the dungeon (turn over new tiles), move through the already explored parts of the dungeon, and fight monsters. When a new dungeon tile is revealed, there is typically an encounter of some sort, and new monsters to fight are added. Slain monsters reward the players with treasure, and experience points, allowing them to level up and increase their skills during play. Players must cooperate to stay alive, slay the monsters, and achieve the goal of their quest. Each scenario has a different goal, from retrieving a relic to slaying a large boss monster.

Like most action platformers it has a cute main character, an ineffectual bad guy and lots of running and jumping over...platforms. The problem for any new platformer appearing today is that it's such an old and long-ago-mastered genre that any new game has got to have something pretty special in order to stand out. Tak 's primary attempt at a unique selling point (apart from the fact that it was made in conjunction with Nickelodeon) revolves around the various animal-based puzzles (all the villagers have been turned into sheep by the aforementioned bad guy) created by various inter-species rivalries (orang-utans hate sheep for some reason) and bribery with food. This aspect of the game can occasionally be inspired but unfortunately the solution to each puzzle is rarely less than obvious. The rest of the game is strictly by-the-numbers, with inconsequential combat, an obtuse camera system and far too many objects to pick up. Tak and the Power of JuJu is by no means a bad game--it is in fact a slightly above average game--but it's unlikely to enthral unless you've really not played this sort of thing before. And if you haven't then the likes of Jak II, Ratchet & Clank 2, Ape Escape 2 and ICO come much more highly recommended. -- David Jenkins
