Solanum betaceum is a small tree or shrub in the flowering plant family Solanaceae (the nightshade family). It is best known as the species that bears the tamarillo, an egg-shaped edible fruit. It is also known as the tree tomato, or tamamoro. The tamarillo is native to the Andes of Peru, Chile, Ecuador, Colombia and Bolivia. The plant is a fast-growing tree that grows up to 5 meters. Peak production is reached after 4 years, and the life expectancy is about 12 years. The tree usually forms a single upright trunk with lateral branches. The flowers and fruits hang from the lateral branches. The leaves are large, simple and perennial, and have a strong pungent smell. The flowers are pink-white, and form clusters of 10 to 50 flowers. They produce 1 to 6 fruits per cluster. Plants can set fruit without cross-pollination, but the flowers are fragrant and attract insects. Cross-pollination seems to improve fruit set. The roots are shallow and not very pronounced, therefore the plant is not tolerant to drought stress, and can be damaged by strong winds. Tamarillos will hybridize with many other solanaceae, though the hybrid fruits will be sterile, and unpalatable in some instances. The fruits are egg shaped and about 4-10 centimetres long. Their colour varies from yellow and orange to red and almost purple. Sometimes they have dark, longitudinal stripes. Red fruits are more acetous, yellow and orange fruits are sweeter. The flesh has a firm texture and contains more and larger seeds than a common tomato. The fruits are very high in vitamins and iron and low in calories (only about 40 calories per fruit).   Please familiarise yourself with the shipping info below Shipping Rates are as listed below Approximate processing and transit times are listed below PLEASE NOTE THAT WE DO NOT SHIP OUTSIDE OF SOUTH AFRICA

Polaskia is a genus of two tree -like cactus species, placed in the Cactaceae family. It is named after the American amateur botanist, Charles Polaski. Both species grows to 5 meters in height. Both present primitive characteristics, but Polaskia chichipe is nearer to Myrtillocactus while Polaskia chende is nearer to Stenocereus. The genus is found in the Southern Mexican states of Puebla and Oaxaca. They are columnar cacti which branches as it ages with many branches on a short trunk. Stems are ribbed with fairly shallow spaces between ribs. Areoles are spaced 2 or 3 cm apart along the ribs. Spines are short and stout, numbering 8-10 radials and one central. Spines may not be present at all - especially on mature plants.  Flowers are widely-opened cups of pinkish white or yellow-green - with or without spines. The fruits are small fleshy berries. They are considered fairly easy to grow and germinate freely from seed. These cacti are perfect for rockeries, where they will give your garden structural height or as potted plants on a sunny patio. Either way you are assured of many years of joy. Polaskia chichipe is a columnar cactus, cultivated for its edible fruits known as Chichituna, Chichipe or Chichibe. It is also grown for its valuable branches which, when dried make excellent fuel wood. Plants under cultivation have larger and sweeter fruits and a much longer period of fruit production. The flowers are self-compatible so you would only need one plant for it to produce fruits. Polaskia chichipe is a columnar tree-like cactus with many curved branches, up to 5 m tall. It has a few taxonomic synonyms including Cereus chichipe, Lemaireocereus chichipe, Myrillocactus chichipe, Cereus mixtecensis and Lemaireocereus mixtecensis. Give it good drainage and use open and free draining mineral compost that allows the roots to breath. They like only a short winter's rest and should be kept almost completely dry during the winter months.  If the soil is allowed to be dry for too long root loss could occur but equally the same result would transpire if the plants are both wet and cold. From spring onwards the plant will begin to grow and watering should be increased gradually until late spring when the plant should be in full growth.

Passiflora quadrangularis  Seeds Passiflora quadrangularis, also named Passiflora macrocarpa or Giant Granadilla, is a perennial vine, looking much like Passiflora alata, but its flowers are bigger. Native to Central and South America it is grown for its large ornamental fragrant flowers and the large fruits. It climbs by means of clinging tendrils and can be kept as a container plant. The long tendrils need lots of support for climbing. It is a fast growing vine which can grow over 15 meters high. It may be grown as a houseplant in a sunny window. A vigorous tropical vine with large bright green oval leaves, 7-13 cm long, 6-10 cm wide. The stems are quadrangular in shape. One of the loveliest and most exotic of the Passion flowers producing gorgeous purple, white and blue banded fragrant flowers, measuring 8-10 cm across in a long succession from mid-Summer to Autumn. It produces giant green to yellow Passion fruits reaching over one foot in diameter. The pulp is white or greyish and is not as flavourful as the common Passion fruit, but still tasty and often eaten or used in drinks. It rarely produces fruit under greenhouse conditions but makes up for this by the sheer glory of its flowers. Pruning is a must to keep the vine healthy. Prune off less vigorous growth and occasionally prune back vigorous growth to promote flowering. When established, and without care, the passion fruit can easily overtake other garden plants, shading them from sun. Protect from frost or plant in frost free areas. The Giant Granadilla is hardy to 35°F when mature, frost tender when young. Provide ideally a temperature of 15°- 28°C. Keep the atmosphere humid through the summer and place in full sun, can tolerate partial shade. Passiflora quadrangularis loves the warm humid Tropics. You may need to water your plants on a daily basis during the hottest summer months. During the winter the roots should be kept moist, but as growth will be much slower you will probably only need to water once a week, depending on growing temperature. It will do best in a loam based mix with a little peat moss. If their pot is too large or if they have an unrestricted root run then the whole plant will simply get bigger and bigger but it will refuse to flower and therefore produce the fruits. By limiting the pot size you are limiting the ability to grow and this is seen as a threat, so the natural mechanism is to produce seed for the next generation. A suitably sized pot for an adult plant would generally be of 30cm in diameter. On offer is a pack of 5 Seeds

Momordica balsamina also known as the Balsam Apple, Cundeamor, or Southern Balsam pear or simply Balsam Pear, is a curious, tendril-bearing annual vine native to the tropical regions of Africa. Although the pale yellow, deeply veined flowers of the Balsam Apple have a subtle beauty, its round, somewhat warty, bright orange fruits, or "Apples", are its most distinguishing feature. When ripe, the fruits burst apart, revealing numerous seeds covered with a brilliant scarlet, extremely sticky coating. The Balsam Apple was introduced into Europe by 1568 and was used medicinally to treat wounds. In 1810 Thomas Jefferson planted this vine in his flower borders at Monticello along with larkspur, poppies, and nutmeg Plant. While the leaves are safe to eat, the seeds can be toxic if too many are ingested. Although they do sell Balsam supplements, like all things moderation is key. In Mozambique, this plant is known as cacana and in rural areas it is used as an anti-malarial. People usually drink water from its boiled leaves and young fruit to treat malaria. Perennial climber, leaf margins irregularly toothed, orange-red knobbed fruit, edible. Sow Spring.   Eggplant Pinstripe is a strong growing, compact plant producing a heavy crop of purple and white striped fruits right through the growing season. Pinstripe has been specially developed to suit the garden environment and will thrive in pots, containers and in the border. Attractive purple flowers are followed by an abundant crop of 3oz (90 grams approx) purple and white striped fruits. The unique compact habit of Pinstripe makes it a perfect choice for mixed flower and vegetable planters. Traditional eggplants can be tall and require staking and are difficult to handle as they are very thorny. Pinstripe stays compact and does not require staking and unless stressed is thorn less making it much easier to handle and harvest. Pinstripe has a great bitter free flavour and does not need to be salted before cooking. Harvest when fruits go bright purple. Pinstripe is great cubed and added to casseroles and ethnic dishes. It is also fabulous sliced and grilled, perhaps as part of an Italian menu. " The Tabasco pepper is a variety of chilli pepper species Capsicum frutescens. It is best known through its use in Tabasco sauce, followed by peppered vinegar. Like all C. frutescens cultivars, the Tabasco plant has a typical bushy growth, which commercial cultivation makes stronger by trimming the plants. The tapered fruits, around 4 cm long, are initially pale yellowish-green and turn yellow and orange before ripening to bright red. Tabasco's rate from 30,000 to 50,000 on the Scoville scale of heat levels, and are the only variety of chilli pepper whose fruits are "juicy"; i.e., they are not dry on the inside.
