Based on the remarkable true story of Franz von Werra, The One That Got Away is the story of the only German prisoner of war to escape Britain and return to his homeland. The One That Got Away stars Hardy Kruger (Barry Lyndon, Flight of the Phoenix) - a real-life prisoner of war, who escaped from the Americans on three occasions - as the cocky and charismatic von Werra, and supported by numerous British screen legends including Michael Goodliffe (The Battle of the River Plate, The 39 Steps), Colin Gordon (The Baron, The Pink Panther) and Alec McCowan (Gangs of New York, The Importance of Being Earnest). With the Battle of Britain at its height, the German lieutenant von Werra gets shot down over enemy soil captured by British soldiers. Interrogation and captivity cannot deter him from the single aim of escaping back to his homeland. The course of his escape takes him through Canada and a still-neutral United States before he makes it home, some two years after first being captured.
