DAVID ANDERSON "ON SAFARI" THE SOURCE FOR SAFARIS IN EAST AND SOUTHERN AFRICA David Anderson is an expert on safari design and planning with over 30 years of experience, renowned for his knowledge of safari destinations. He  became captivated by Africa after a five-week trip to Kenya in 1978 and two years later, planned and organized his first safari for a small group of friends. That success led him to organize other safaris, which eventually resulted in the creation of David Anderson Safari. Over the years, he has designed hundreds of safaris and personally escorted over fifty. Concerned with declining tourism to Africa and the inevitable impact that this was having on endangered wildlife, Anderson organized the 'Focus on Africa' Project in 1993. Over a sixteen-week period, one hundred thirty-six mostly amateur photographers traveled throughout East and Southern Africa on twenty-five safaris, which he designed. In all, more than 250,000 photo frames were exposed.  The award winning book,  On Safari: The Source for Safaris in East and Southern Africa  was inspired because David saw the need for an attractive coffee-table book that provided more than just wonderful pictures and  should be a resource book with solid information for the safari traveler. Anderson lives in Santa Barbara, California, but travels frequently to Africa in search of knowledge, adventure, and of course, to practice the art and science of photography. In this lively history, author Thomas N. Mitchell tells the full and remarkable story of how a radical new political order was born out of the revolutionary movements that swept through the Greek world in the seventh and sixth centuries B.C., how it took firm hold and evolved over the next two hundred years, and how it was eventually undone by the invading Macedonian conquerors, a superior military power. Mitchell's superb history addresses the most crucial issues surrounding this first paradigm of democratic governance, including what initially inspired the political beliefs underpinning it, the ways the system succeeded and failed, how it enabled both an empire and a cultural revolution that transformed the world of arts and philosophy, and the nature of the Achilles heel that hastened the demise of Athenian democracy.  The Strain: Guillermo Del Toro, Chuck Hogan   High-concept thriller with a supernatural edge from world-famous director, whose films include Pan's Labyrinth and Hellboy. Now a popular Amazon TV show. A plane lands at JFK and mysteriously `goes dark', stopping in the middle of the runway for no apparent reason, all lights off, all doors sealed. The pilots cannot be raised. When the hatch above the wing finally clicks open, it soon becomes clear that everyone on board is dead - although there is no sign of any trauma or struggle. Ephraim Goodweather and his team from the Center for Disease Control must work quickly to establish the cause of this strange occurrence before panic spreads. The first thing they discover is that four of the victims are actually still alive. But that's the only good news. And when all two hundred corpses disappear from various morgues around the city on the same night, things very rapidly get worse. Soon Eph and a small band of helpers will find themselves battling to protect not only their own loved ones, but the whole city, against an ancient threat to humanity.

"This is an invitation to a party, one which commemorates events that began five hundred years ago in Europe and have consequences throughout the world today. My title suggests that this book is about two things, a "heart" and a "soul." Yet the chapters that follow deal with relations between the two, the first belonging to Martin Luther and those in his legacy, and the second to the Roman Catholic Church and those who belong to its community or communion." -Martin Marty Includes the 95 Theses of Martin Luther Features Summary Released in time for the 500th Anniversary of Martin Luther's 95 Theses, and the Protestant Reformation. It is ordered on demand from our supplier and is usually dispatched within 7 - 13 working days Set like a stronghold south-west of the Caucasus mountains, Armenia is caught between East and West. Briefly a great empire in the first century BCE under King Tigranes the Great, Armenia was later incorporated first by the Sasanian and then the Byzantine Empires. Armenian art, literature, religion and material culture have reinterpreted elements of a wide variety of cultures. Spanning over two and a half millennia, the history of Armenia and the Armenian people is a series of riveting tales, from its first mention under the Achaemenid King Darius I to the independence of the Republic of Armenia from the Soviet Union. With the help of the Bodleian Libraries' magnificent collection of Armenian manuscripts and early printed books, this volume tells the story of the region through the medium of its cultural output. Together with introductions written by experts in their fields, close to one hundred manuscripts, works of art and religious artefacts serve as a guide to Armenian culture and history. Gospel manuscripts splendidly illuminated by Armenian masters feature next to philosophical tractates and merchants' handbooks, affording us an insight into what makes the Armenian people truly unique, especially in the shadow of the genocide that threatened their annihilation a hundred years ago: namely their spirituality, language and perseverance in the face of adversity. Subtitle: The Fortunes of Frasers Author: Christopher Danziger Publisher: Purnell (1979) ISBN-10: 0868430242 ISBN-13: 9780868430249 Condition: Very Good Binding: Hardcover with dust jacket Pages: 147 Dimensions: 25.4 x 19.2 x 1.8 cm +++ by Christopher Danziger +++ Behind the concrete, plate glass and tubular shelving of the commercial giant into which Frasers Limited has grown today, is the intensely human story of two men who were prepared to risk everything they had on 'one turn of pitch and toss' in a lonely mountainous African chieftaincy over a hundred years ago. This is the account, first, of how their gamble paid off, less by good fortune than by strength of character and the courage of their convictions, and, second, how their stake was taken up and multiplied many times over by a line of men as robust and fiercely independent as themselves.

The first battle book from Mark Bowden since his #1 New York Times bestseller Black Hawk Down, Hue 1968, "an instantly recognizable classic of military history" (Christian Science Monitor), was published to massive critical acclaim and became a New York Times bestseller. In the early hours of January 31, 1968, the North Vietnamese launched over one hundred attacks across South Vietnam in what would become known as the Tet Offensive. The lynchpin of Tet was the capture of Hue, Vietnam's intellectual and cultural capital, by 10,000 National Liberation Front troops who descended from hidden camps and surged across the city of 140,000. Within hours the entire city was in their hands save for two small military outposts. American commanders refused to believe the size and scope of the Front's presence, ordering small companies of marines against thousands of entrenched enemy troops. After several futile and deadly days, Lieutenant Colonel Ernie Cheatham would finally come up with a strategy to retake the city in some of the most intense urban combat since World War II. With unprecedented access to war archives in the U.S. and Vietnam and inter-views with participants from both sides, Bowden narrates each stage of this crucial battle through multiple viewpoints. Played out over twenty-four days and ultimately costing 10,000 lives, the Battle of Hue was the bloodiest of the entire war. When it ended, the American debate was never again about winning, only about how to leave. Hue 1968 is a gripping and moving account of this pivotal moment.
