The genus Bulbine is placed in the Asphodelaceae family and comprises more or less 73 species occurring in Africa and Australia. In southern Africa you will find 67 species, of which 62 are indigenous to South Africa, whereas only six species are found in Australia. Of the southern African species only five extend into tropical Africa. The genus is consequently considered to be a southern African entity. The genus is characterized by water-wise succulent plants with lax or compound racemes (flowers borne on stalks along an unbranched axis, lower ones opening first) of mostly yellow (very rarely white, orange or pink) flowers with bearded stamens. It is closely related to Bulbinella but has flowers that are "bearded" with hairy stamens. Many Bulbine species have medicinal uses too. Bulbine frutescens is a popular, water wise garden plant, especially when planted en masse as a ground cover, or in rock gardens. It is also cultivated for its medicinal properties. The fresh leaf produces a jelly-like juice that is wonderful for burns, rashes, blisters, insect bites, cracked lips, acne, cold sores, mouth ulcers and areas of cracked skin. This plant is ideal to grow and is a useful first-aid remedy for children’s' daily knocks and scrapes. The Rastafarians make an infusion of a few fresh leaves in a cup of boiling water. The strained drink is taken for coughs, colds and arthritis. During spring into summer it produces upright spreading racemes in yellow, orange or rarely white. On offer here are seeds for the yellow form of Bulbine frutescens. We also sell the Orange and White forms. Sow the seeds of Bulbine frutescens during spring or summer.

The Yellow Bird of Paradise - Strelitzia reginae 'Mandela's Gold' - is a rare, yellow form of the famous orange Bird of Paradise. This spectacular cultivar has flaring, yellow sepals and blue petals reminiscent of a crested tropical bird. Like the orange form, it is easy to grow in the right conditions. Related to Heliconias and Bananas, the Yellow Bird of Paradise looks similar to the orange form, but it slightly smaller, growing to 4 feet tall.  This South African native eventually multiplies into a large colony of plants several feet across.  It blooms throughout the year in mild climates.  The tall flower stalks rise above the foliage, with a beak-like spathe growing outward, about 6 inches in length.  The bright yellow sepals spread out to invite birds to perch on the blue petals, which contain nectar.  The blooms make very long lasting cut flowers.  'Mandela's Gold' was named in honor of South African statesman, Nelson Mandela. 10 SEEDS PER PACK GROWING INSTRUCTIONS INCLUDED

Passiflora edulis f. edulis  Seeds Of all the flowering vines, Passion Flower bears some of the showiest blooms on earth. The Passion Flower is easy to grow and looks absolutely stunning in the garden or inside, as a year-round houseplant. The variety offered here (Purple Granadilla) is a vigorous and free flowering deciduous climbing perennial vine which grows up to 6 meters long at maturity. Blooming from late May through October, its beautifully intricate purple and white fragrant flowers are approximately 7 – 10 cm across and are followed by smooth, round 5 cm fruits that are edible and turn yellow when ripe. The dark purple edulis variety is smaller than a lemon, though it is less acidic than the yellow passion fruit, and has a richer aroma and flavour. Although classed as half-hardy, Passion Flower can survive winters up to -20°C when it has the shelter of a north facing wall. In colder zones, these are best grown outside in containers and overwintered inside or grown as a year-round houseplant. Inside plants bloom intermittently throughout the winter months. In short, Passion Flower is very easy to grow, a delight to look at and smell and provide stunning flowers for any garden or a bright location inside. On offer is a pack of 10 Seeds
