Editor: Gideon Haigh Publisher: Aurum Press (2006) ISBN-10: 1845131630 ISBN-13: 9781845131630 Condition: Very Good. A few small marks on the endpapers and the outside edges of the pages. The DJ is rubbed and marked with light wear to the edges.  Binding: Hardcover with dust jacket Pages: 148 Dimensions: 18.4 x 12.2 x 1.7 cm +++ Edited by Gideon Haigh +++ In 2005, Aurum republished with success, J.L. Carr's miniature and classic Dictionary of Extra-Ordinary Cricketers  - the book reprinted within a few months. Now, in its first collaboration with John Wisden Co, publishers of the celebrated annual Wisden Cricketers' Almanack, it publishes a similarly eccentric gallery of quixotic and eccentric cricketers, edited by acclaimed cricket writer Gideon Haigh. But where readers of J.L. Carr were never quite sure whether the author had somehow embellished - or even completely invented - the facts about the cricketers he anthologised, the esoteric details and mad whimsies recorded in these obituaries are exactly as they appeared in the august pages of the Almanack itself.

Unfinished Tales is a collection of narratives ranging in time from the Elder Days of Middle-earth to the end of the War of the Ring, and provides those who have read The Lord of the Rings with a whole collection of background and new stories from the twentieth century's most acclaimed popular author. The book concentrates on the realm of Middle-earth and comprises such elements as Gandalf's lively account of how it was that he came to send the Dwarves to the celebrated party at Bag-End, the emergence of the sea-god Ulmo before the eyes of Tuor on the coast of Beleriand, and an exact description of the military organization of the Riders of Rohan. Unfinished Tales also contains the only story about the long ages of Numenor before its downfall, and all that is known about such matters as the Five Wizards, the Palantiri and the legend of Amroth. The tales were collated and edited by JRR Tolkien's son and literary heir, Christopher Tolkien, who provides a short commentary on each story, helping the reader to fill in the gaps and put each story into the context of the rest of his father's writings. About the product Being letters and diaries preserved by Mrs J. F. Vertical crease to upper wrap; some moderate foxing; pencilled genealogical tables inside wraps; a little underlining. Very good overall."Sarah Ann Slater kept letters, and several hundred from relations and friends fill the old campaign chest at Carnarvon Dale. We are printing in several booklets some of these letters, which include those written to each other by Sarah and her husband John Slater, and those of the Bonnin sisters and the Blands. The children of John and Sarah wrote home from schools, the Diamond Fields in the 1870's, Johannesburg in the 1880's and 1890's, from Rhodesia 1890, on service during the Boer War and from England. There are also numbers of letters from their grandchildren and from their relatives, the Parkers, Blands, Wilmots, Hobsons, Berringtons and Slaters."- editor's introduction. The letters provide a clear window in the life of an extended 1820 Settler family.
