Stictocardia is a genus of herbaceous or woody climbers in the morning glory family, Convolvulaceae. The genus name Stictocardia means ‘dotted heart’ in reference to the dark glands at the lower leaf surface of the heart shaped leaves.  Stictocardia macalusoi commonly known as Scarlet African Morning Glory is a very rare indigenous perennial robust climber with dark purple to blue vines covered in large heart-shaped leaves.         It bears very showy large red trumpet shaped flowers with yellow centres all year round. This plant is well suited to pot culture as well as being used under trees where they are allowed to scramble up lower branches. Stictocardia macalusoi will easily cover any trellis, fence or lattice support in one season. Stictocardia macalusoi will bloom more profusely than its cousin Stictocardia beraviensis and is much more dramatic in its colour intensity and form. Stictocardia seeds need to be scarified before soaking overnight and sowing the next morning. Barely nick the hard outer seed coat with a file, sandpaper or nail clippers. Be very careful not to nick too deep so as to damage the embryo, the white part inside the seed. Seed germinates easily in a damp mixture of fine humus-rich soil with some sand. A glass sheet on top helps keep the soil moist but do allow some air to circulate. Newspaper on top of the glass will help germination by keeping the seeds dark. Use light soil rich in humus but with good drainage and add some super phosphate. Water the plant well at first and then moderately all year but especially in summer. Add compost at planting time and again 2 or 3 times per summer, as mulch. Give an occasional dressing of fertilizer for flowering plants (with ratio of N:P:K = 3:1:5) or a general fertilizer (ratio of 2:3:2).

Strelitzia is a genus of five species of perennial plants, indigenous to South Africa. The name Strelitzia was given to honour Queen Charlotte, the wife of King George III of England. She was from the house of Mecklenburg-Strelitz. A common name of the genus is bird of paradise flower, because of a supposed resemblance of its flowers to the bird of paradise. In South Africa it is commonly known as a crane flower. The flowers are ideal for cut flowers and last up to 20 days in a vase. They can all be grown in large pots or tubs but will require regular feeding and irrigation. There are three tree-like Strelitzia species Strelitzia alba, Strelitzia caudata and Strelitzia nicolai. The other two species Strelitzia reginae and Strelitzia juncea are shrub-like tufted clump-forming species. In Kirstenbosch released a yellow variety of Strelitzia reginae which in was named Mandela’s Gold in honour of Nelson Mandela.           Strelitzias are easy plants to grow in the garden. Plants do well in full sun to semi-shade, love a rich loamy soil and plenty of water throughout the year. They respond well to regular feeding with a slow release fertilizer and compost. They are however very tolerant plants and will thrive in most soils and can survive with very little water once established. The plants are also wind resistant and grow well in coastal gardens. Strelitzias are sensitive to cold and would need a sheltered position in areas with frost as the flowers and leaves are often damaged by frost. In very cold climates it is better to grow them in pots that could be moved indoors when freezing temperatures are expected. Strelitzia reginae is a bold structural plant, which forms large evergreen clumps of stiff leaves growing up from the base. The grey-green banana-like leaves grow about 1,5 m in height and the flowers stand above the foliage at the tips of long stalks. Mature plants are very floriferous with flowers in autumn, winter and spring. The structure and pollination of the flowers are rather interesting. The hard, beak-like sheath from which the flower emerges, is called the spathe. This is placed at right angles to the stem, which gives it the appearance of a bird's head. When the birds sit to have a drink of nectar, the petals open to cover their feet in pollen.

Dyckia brevifolia Seeds Common Names: Pineapple Dyckia - Pineapple Bromeliad   Dyckia brevifolia or Pineapple Dyckia as it is commonly known is a stemless, succulent, terrestrial bromeliad, native chiefly to Brazil and Argentina. It flowers during summer and bears 7mm long sulfur-orange to yellow flowers. It does best in full sun to light shade, with night temperatures of °C and day temperatures of 20°C or higher. Pot in a lime-free compost consisting of 2 parts peat moss to 1 part loam to 1 part sharp sand or perlite. Allow the potting mix to become moderately dry between thorough watering. Fertilize every 2 weeks with a balanced fertilizer diluted to ½ strength recommended on the label. It is propagated from the new shoots that appear at the base of the plant. Dyckia is a genus of the botanical family Bromeliaceae, subfamily Pitcairnioideae. The genus is named after the Prussian botanist, botanical artist and horticulturist The Prince and Earl of Salm Reifferscheid-Dyck (). Dyckias, with stiff and thorny leaves, prefer rocky and/or sunny areas and have a natural tendency to clump leading to thick, large mats. The subfamily Pitcairnioideae contains several "terrestrial" members of the Bromeliaceae, with cultivated genera including Dyckia, Hechtia, Pitcairnia and Puya. Considered to be the most ancient lineage of bromeliads, they are endemic to arid and high-altitude regions of Brazil and the central part of South America.  You're buying a pack of 10 Seeds We'll supply you with all the germination & care instructions.

In very cold climates it is better to grow them in pots that could be moved indoors when freezing temperatures are expected. Strelitzia nicolai, commonly known as the Natal wild banana, White Bird of Paradise, Wild Banana or Giant Bird of Paradise, are evergreen banana-like plants, related to the well-known crane flower, Strelitzia reginae, that have erect woody, palm like stems reaching a height of 12 m and the clumps formed can spread as far as 4 m. The 1.8 m long leaves are grey-green and arranged like a fan at the top of the stems. Although not related to the true bananas or the wild banana Ensete ventricosum, the leaves and growth habit of Strelitzia nicolai are somewhat similar and probably account for the common name. The inflorescence is composed of a dark blue bract, white sepals and a bluish-purple "tongue". The entire flower can be as much as 18 cm high by 45 cm long and is typically held just above the point where the leaf fan emerges from the stem.
