1558 EF - 45 Hungary, 1 Denar Coin (459 years old) The reverse depicts a classical Madonna and Child(the virgin Mary and baby Jesus) scene, typical of the period. With the legend: "PATRONA VNGARIE" The obverse depicts the coat of arms with the date above, inscription is "FERDINAND DGR VNG 1558". Ferdinand was born on 10 March 1503 in Alcala de Henares, 40 km from Madrid, the son of the Infanta Joanna of Castile (1479–1555), the future Queen of Castile known as Joanna the Mad, and Habsburg Archduke Philip the Handsome (1478–1506), Duke of Burgundy and future King of Castile, who was heir to Emperor Maximilian I. Ferdinand shared his birthday with his maternal grandfather Ferdinand II the Catholic, King of Aragon. Charles entrusted Ferdinand with the government of the Habsburg hereditary lands, roughly modern-day Austria and Slovenia. In 1531 Ferdinand was elected King of the Romans, making him Charles's designated heir as emperor. Ferdinand deputised as ruler during his brother's many absences from imperial lands. After Charles's abdication as emperor in 1556, which was not formal until 1558, Ferdinand assumed the title of Holy Roman Emperor, Charles having agreed to exclude his own son, Philip, from the German succession, which instead passed to Ferdinand's eldest son Maximilian II (1527–1576). Spanish Silver 'Half-Reale' Ferdinand and Isabella 1469-1504 Ref. 40MY Noted  for being the first coin minted in the Kingdom of Spain, the  silver Spanish Reale (meaning 'Royal") dates back to the time of Christopher Columbus. Isabella, heiress to the throne of Castille, married Ferdinand, King of Naples and Sicily, and heir to the throne of Aragon, in 1469. Ferdinand and Isabella represent the beginnings of the modern Spanish coinage by issuing one design for all of unified Spain.  The coin show, on the reverse, a bunch of arrows, representing the Arms of Isabella, and, on the obverse, a Yoke, representing the Arms of Ferdinand. The 'New World' was an uncharted land, and many people still believed the world to be 'flat'. This made the funding for Columbus's voyage very difficult - which sailor would want to drop off at the edge of the world?? Eventually, it was Ferdinand and Isabella who came to his rescue and provided the funds necessary. The coin shown is a hammered silver coin, measuring approximately 20-21 mm in diameter. In fairly good condition, the inscriptions can be partially seen. Hammered coins were produced by placing a thin sheet of metal, either gold, silver or copper, between two dies, and striking the top die as to create an image on each side. Because of this method, it was difficult to produce coins of a regular diameter, and, often coins were 'cut' i.e. slivers of the coins were removed by unscrupulous traders and the metal, (silver or gold), and the thin slivers eventually re-sold. This coin was discovered in England through metal detecting. Please note - I am NOT a numismatist, but, from my research, I believe this coin is dated  and identified correctly. My apologies, if I am wrong. Price R400.00 Post R25.00   Terms: We offer a strict three-day approval period from the date the parcel reaches you. TEMPEST Synopsis: Feuding noblemen, embroiled in a world of spirits and sorcery, are forced to come to terms with their past when their children meet by chance and fall passionately in love. English and drama teachers, as well as the typical playgoer, will find this feature of tremendous value. Shakespeare's own language is preserved; clarity of both language and story is achieved. Prospero brings King Alonso, Duke Antonio and court attendants safely ashore. Unbeknown to the rest of the castaways, Ferdinand, the King's son, arrives separately and meets Miranda, Prospero's daughter. The two fall in love. The missing Ferdinand is assumed drowned. Alonso repents of his past deeds, believing Ferdinand's death was punishment for his own wrongdoing. Prospero, convinced that his false brother and the King have reformed, reveals himself as the wronged, but genuine Duke of Milan. The rejoicing group celebrates the wedding of Ferdinand and Miranda.   Starring: Efrem Zimbalist Jr Ron Palillo   Category: Setwork   Age Restriction: ALL AGES
