Paul Wilson builds the concluding chapter of Repairman Jack: The Early Years, the prequel trilogy focusing on the formative years of Wilson's globally popular supernatural tropubleshooter. The strands of Jack's life, established in the first two books, "Cold City" and "Dark City," are now woven into a complete pattern. Centered around an obscure group of malcontents intent on creating a terrible explosion in New York City in , "Fear City" shows the final stages of young Jack becoming Repairman Jack. It is a dark and terrible story, full of plots and needless mayhem, with secret agents, a freelance torturer, a secret society as old as human history, love, death, and a very bleak triumph. Jack threads his way through this intricate maze, as people he loves are stripped away from him in a way that presages the later epic series of novels. This item is sold brand new. It is ordered on demand from our supplier and is usually dispatched within 7 - 11 working days Emmy Award-winning filmmaker, writer, and naturalist Joe Hutto has done it again. "Touching the Wild" is the enchanting story about one man who has lived with a herd of mule deer in the Wind River mountains of Wyoming for almost seven years. Why, you may ask, would a person choose to do such a thing? His response: "how could you not?" For Joe Hutto, close proximity to wild things is irresistible. In "Illumination in the Flatwoods" he unveiled the secret lives of the wild turkey to great critical acclaim. In "Touching the Wild" he turns his acute sense of wonder and affinity to one of the West's quintessential "big game" animals: the mule deer, a species in peril due to environmental factors. Wily, thoughtful creatures, mule deer are not inclined to make foolish friendships with their primary predator--man. But due to the intense curiosity of one small doe, and the resulting introduction to an entire herd, Joe Hutto has been allowed unprecedented access and insight into the minds and behavior of this special animal. Spending every day among the herd, he develops uncanny connections with the deer, learning individual and group dynamics as well, unveiling just how much we have in common with these delicate beings. Each season brings new joy as fawns are born and heartache as matriarchs pass away, or hunting takes its toll, or a fawn is orphaned. But what overwhelmingly emerges from "Touching the Wild" is the enormous respect Hutto has for all wild things and the recognition that we have so much to learn from them about their world, ourselves, and the fragile planet we share. Throughout the book are gorgeous full-color photos. Features Summary Emmy Award-winning filmmaker, writer, and naturalist Joe Hutto has done it again. CHAMPIONS OF THE WILD - WILDLIFE GAME RESRVE / TARANTULAS Synopsis: Across the world scientists, activists and biologists dedicate their lives to studying some of the world’s rarest, most endangered species. Through years of close observation these individuals, often working against traditional scientific thought, have come to understand their animals better than anyone. They are the CHAMPIONS OF THE WILD. WILDLIFE GAME RESERVE This is the story of the remote part of Africa few people have heard of, but here is a sanctuary for wildlife, a safe and productive haven that stands where once was a barren, thirsty, empty land. Now teeming with wild life, enjoy this success story with co-stars, warthogs, baboon, crocodile, lion, elephant, an array of antelope and bird life, where once it was never possible. TARANTULAS are the ultimate creepy-crawly, known and justifiably feared throughout the world - amateur biologist Rick West has of them in his basement. West has been fascinated by tarantulas since he saw his first one at age 14. Today, tarantula enthusiasts from around the world seek his expertise in identifying unusual specimens. Tarantulas are nocturnal predators, killing their prey by injecting venom through their fangs. The hungry tarantula typically waits partially hidden at the entrance of its retreat to ambush passing prey. It’s sensitive hairs enable to detect the size and location of its potential victim. Like many spiders, it cannot see much more than light or movement and uses its sense of touch to perceive the world.     Starring: In Association With Discovery Channel   Category: Documentary, Wildlife   Age Restriction: ALL AGES

During that long, hot summer of 1964, Ivan Smith, a mercenary volunteer in the Arme'e Nationale Congolais, came to witness and understand fear, the law of the jungle and the lust for killing that permeates Africa. A member of 'Mad Mike' Hoare's 5 Commando Group he and his companions were nominally soldiers but there was little in the way of campaigns, tactics and discipline. Of conventional warfare there was none. Loyalty to country or unit did not exist and the fear of death was the only commander. Many more mercenaries died from an accidental discharge, in a drunken shoot-out or from a bullet in the back than were ever killed in action by Simba rebels. Nearly half a century later, Ivan Smith re-lives the nightmare that was the Congo. PAPERBACK: 160 PAGES WITH 40 B/W PHOTOS.  Published May 2012
