Tanzanite is known for the exquisite combination of purple and blue hues, one of the loveliest of gems that has been discovered in modern times. Tanzanite, discovered in Tanzania in 1967 and introduced to the world in 1968, is mined as a greenish yellowish brownish crystalline material that resembles Andalusite. Tanzanite is basically the Blue variety of "Zoisite", and mined in Tanzania just below the base of majestic Mount Kilamanjaro. Zoisite was originally used in lamp shades and other ornamental art carved items. Tanzanite has been adopted as a December birthstone by the American Gem Trade Association and shares its last-month-of-the-year membership with turquoise and zircon. Even though all the major industry associations agreed that the public would respond positively to a dynamic new birthstone choice for December, amending the birthstone list is like amending the Constitution. There must be compelling reason and wide support. The last time the birthstone list was revised was in 1912, when jewelry industry leaders met to give gems discovered since the formulation of the traditional list a shot at birthstone status. Alexandrite made the 1912 list, and now that Tanzanite has been given birthstone status it shows the degree to which this gem is revered by the trade and public alike. It's affordability and distinctive beauty have earned this gem a status that rivals Kashmir Blue Sapphire. Tanzanite can be cut to emphasize its blue or violet color component, so it can resemble the finest royal-blue sapphire or hint at amethyst purple. This color versatility has endeared this member of the Zoisite family to leading jewelry designers in America, Europe and Japan. Top Gem Tanzanite is very beautiful and looks great in jewelry. If you are considering Tanzanite, I stock some Top Gem colors of rich deep Intense blue/blue-violet. TREATMENTS  - Virtually every Tanzanite is heated to permanently change its color from it's orange-brown state to the spectacular violet-blue color for which this precious gemstone variety is known. Moderate heat (750 o -950 o  F) is applied to get the color you see today ranging from light blue/blue-violet to AAA+ Top Gem colors of rich deep Intense blue/blue-violet. The typical heat treatment process is a permanent process that does not adversely affect the durability of the gemstone, so there's no need to worry when you see this enhancement disclosed.  CARE  - Tanzanite is sensitive to sudden temperature changes that may cause cracking. The fracture is uneven and brittle and a jeweler's torch could fuse the gem, so it may be prudent to ask a Jeweler to remove the stone before applying his torch. Tanzanite is easily attacked by hydrochloric and hydrofluoric acid. Tanzanite should  never  be cleaned in an ultrasonic or steam cleaner, since this cleaning method can cause irreparable damage to the stone. I strongly recommend  Ionic  Cleaners and/or warm, soapy water and a soft brush as the best way to clean Tanzanite jewelry. Since Tanzanite is of the softer variety of gems, like emerald, I recommend it be handled as though it is was as soft as opal. Also, if mounted on a Ring, since rings are susceptible to knocks and abrasion, I recommend mounting in a bezel or protected with heavy prongs as much as possible.           PLEASE NOTE THAT THERE MIGHT BE VARIANCES IN COLOUR DUE TO DIFFERENT MONITORS OR VIEWING EQUIPMENT.   SHAPE OVAL FACET TREATMENT ROUTINELY HEATED WEIGHT 0.47ct ORIGIN ARUSHA, TANZANIA DIMENSIONS 6.03x3.97mm CLARITY TYPE I - VVS COLOUR VIOLET BLUE HARDNESS 6.5 LUSTRE ADAMANTINE QUANTITY 1                                                 GIA CLARITY CHART      PLEASE DO NOT ASSUME TO USE ANYTHING FROM THE MELBON SITES WITHOUT PRIOR PERMISSION.             Mystic topaz   is quite a new gem type, first seen around 1998. It is natural colourless (white) topaz that has been coated, giving it a unique rainbow colour effect. Therefore, it is not a gem type, but is an enhanced clear topaz. The coating technology, known as thin film deposition, was pioneered by a company called Azotic Coating Inc. Mystic topaz may be so-called because its attractive changing colours appear deep, mysterious and unusual. Mystic topaz usually appears to display rainbow colours, with greens, blues and purples being quite prominent. Since the treatment is a coating, it is not a permanent enhancement, but its remarkable appearance makes it an interesting gem in its own right. If handled correctly, the enhancement can last a lifetime.       PICTURE IS ENLARGED      Gem type:TOPAZ   SHAPE PEAR FACET TREATMENT COATED WEIGHT 3.01tcw ORIGIN BRAZIL DIMENSIONS 8.14x6.08x4.35mm CLARITY VVS COLOUR BLACK/DARK PURPLE WITH FIRE IN OTHER COLOURS HARDNESS 8 LUSTRE ADAMANTINE QUANTITY 2                                       GIA CLARITY CHART

GIA Color Grading Specifications:  "For colored diamonds, the aspect of color far outweighs the other “C’s” (clarity, cut, and carat weight in the determination of value. Therefore, it is critical to understand the relationship of color appearances that affect color grades and descriptions." "Color is described using three attributes: hue (the appearance of red, blue, green, or anything in between), tone (the relative lightness or darkness of a color), and saturation (the relative strength or weakness of a color). The color appearance of a gem is the result of a combination of these three attributes. By standardizing the organization of these three attributes, a color’s appearance can be located in color space." ~ GIA colored diamond color reference charts / John M.         Fluorite, discovered as early as 1530, is considered to be one of most popular minerals in the world among gem and mineral collectors, second only to quartz. It is often referred to as ' the most colorful mineral in the world ' owing to its variety of brilliant colors.  In 1852, the phenomenon of 'fluorescence' was named after fluorite, since it was one of the first fluorescent minerals studied. Fluorite is frequently fluorescent under ultraviolet UV light. The fluorescence is thought to be due to impurities of yttrium or other types of organic matter within the crystal lattice. The color of visible light emitted when a sample of fluorite is fluorescing appears to be highly dependent on where the specimen was collected. Fluorescent colors of fluorite are extremely variable. They include blue, yellow, green, red, white and purple. Some specimens have the added effect of simultaneously exhibiting different colors under long and short wave UV light.         PICTURE IS ENLARGED     Gem type:FLUORITE   SHAPE OVAL FACET TREATMENT NATURAL WEIGHT 4.42ct ORIGIN GERMANY DIMENSIONS 11x9mm CLARITY VVS COLOUR PEACOCK BLUE TO PURPLY RED COLOUR SHIFTING HARDNESS 4 LUSTRE ADAMANTINE QUANTITY 1                                       GIA CLARITY

3.12ct DAZZLING!!!!  100% GENUINE Natural AAA RUBY TOP BLOOD RED - MADAGASCAR MAKE AN AWESOME RING OR PENDANT      Ruby is one of the highest valued coloured gemstones, in fact, large rubies can fetch higher prices than equivalently sized diamonds. Ruby has been prized for centuries because of its excellent Mohs scale hardness of 9, along with its treasured rich red hue and vitreous lustre. Ruby is a variety of corundum that gets its red colour from chromium. Corundum that occurs in other colours is classified as sapphire. In its pure form, corundum is colourless. The word "corundum" comes from the Tamil "kurundam", meaning "ruby sapphire". In the ancient Indian language of Sanskrit, ruby is called "ratnaraj", which translates as "king of precious stones". Ancient Sanskrit texts, the Bible and other historical writings refer to ruby as a precious gem, indicating the rich history and abiding appreciation of ruby gemstones. Ancient Hindus believed that by making an offering of a ruby to Krishna, rebirth as an emperor was assured. Burmese warriors believed that rubies would make them invincible, and even inserted rubies under their skin for this purpose. Ruby is exposed to  heat treatment  in order to enhance the colour. This is considered to be a stable and permanent enhancement. Intact rutile inclusions (also known as "silk") provide proof that a ruby gemstone has not been heat treated. Ruby is also irradiated and treated with diffusion to enhance the colour. Other enhancements include  fracture filling  with lead glass, which is conducted to render heavily included gemstones fit for jewellery use. Occasionally, ruby is oiled or dyed. Despite all of the treatments that ruby can be subjected to, natural ruby gemstones are available and all reputable gemstone sellers declare any treatments or enhancements. The most important sources for ruby include Myanmar (Burma), Thailand, Sri Lanka and Tanzania. Other sources are Afghanistan, Australia, Brazil, India, Cambodia, Kenya, Madagascar, Malawi, Mozambique, Nepal, Pakistan, Zimbabwe, Tajikistan, the USA and Vietnam.   PICTURE IS ENLARGED    Gem Type:   DAZZLING!!! 100% Natural AAA RUBY Shape:   Cushion FACET   Quantity:   1 Total Weight:   3.12ct Colour:   TOP BLOOD RED   Clarity:   S1 Size:   8.03x8.03x5.12m Treatment:   Enhancement - Lead Filling if needed  Origin:  Madagascar Hardness:   9.0 MOH'S SCALE       6.98 x 3.836.98 x 3.83
