Enjoy an affordable breakaway in the heart of the bushveld. Wake up to the call of the fish eagles, hear lions roar at night and enjoy a sighting of our resident bush babies. We are situated in Marloth Park, with only the Crocodile River separating us from the Kruger National Park. This tranquil getaway provides an unforgettable experience and guests can expect regular visits by zebra, kudu, impala, giraffe, warthog and even the shy bush buck. The area is a bird lover’s paradise with more than 300 species identified. Be sure to wait outside the kitchen door just before sunset for a sighting of our lovely bush baby family. Bushbaby Eden, surrounded by parkland, consists of three bedrooms and can accommodate four adults and two children. Two bedrooms are furnished with double beds and have en-suite bathrooms. The third bedroom has a bunk bed. The kitchen is equipped with cutlery and crockery and includes a fridge-freezers, stove and a microwave. All linen are provided; guests just need to bring their own towels. Towels can be provided on request. Bushbaby Eden is serviced Monday to Friday, unlike other self- catering accommodation you will have no dishes to wash, beds to make, just sit back and relax! Bushbaby Eden has a lovely veranda that overlooks the pond, frequently visited by wildlife. The deck overlooks the bush, parkland and the pond. There is shaded parking for two vehicles and 24-hour security is provided by a local security company based in Marloth Park. A pub and restaurant with a big screen TV, a take away outlet, a petrol station, a bakery, a butcher, a bottle store and several other shops can be found along Olifants Drive. A 4 minute walk down Maroela road will take you to Henk van Rooyen Park where there is a public swimming pool, kiosk and restaurant that overlooks the Crocodile River. The Arpa Farmhouse has four bedrooms and two bathrooms with one bath and two showers; the warm water is supplied by a donkey boiler. There is no electricity and the lights inside are generated from heavy duty batteries. The units have a small gas fridge and a gas stove and plenty of wood for campfires, but bring charcoal for braais. You will need to bring your own bedding and it is always cooler at night and bitterly cold in winter. There is a Jetmaster fireplace and a farm stove for cold winter nights. There is a big lapa next to the dam with a coal stove; the dam is 50 m from the farmhouse. The dam is a great stop for fishing as there is plenty of bass and a great three kilometre hike along the river or a hike along the koppie for the best view of the surrounding land and hills. Bring your binoculars as there are plenty of birdwatching opportunities. Firewood is free for boma fires; Sylvester makes fires and wash the dishes. The entire farm can be booked out and is ideal for birthday parties or weddings at a fixed rate. Please enquire about the rate. Catering can be supplied (spitbraai,potjie and breakfast) and please note you need to bring your own bedding. Special rates for groups for more than nine adults. If your group is larger than five people no other group will be allowed on the farm. There are various activities on the farm such as fishing for bass and carp, rowing on the Arpa dam in two arc boats, riding on tubes on the river, sleeping on the Helpmekaar koppie in tents and experiencing the Free State in all its glory, and swimming in the dam, river or in the Arpa cement dam Jacuzzi. You can also enjoy a river picnic under the shade of large poplar trees with the sound of eagles nesting in the trees. Hike on the farm or walk to the mountains and hollow caves, or ride your mountain bike on a 27 km dirt road or your road bike to Clarens which is 26 km from Arpa. Guests can visit Lesotho as the border is only 12 km from Arpa and make a boma fire and "kuier" into the small hours of the night, no need to worry about neighbours. There is a generator on Arpa for light and to charge cellphones. The 700-litre donkey makes hot water for everybody and you can drink water out of Arpa's fountain. Kruger View Cottage is a charming, thatched self catering cottage in Marloth Park, and is situated next to the southern boundary of the Kruger National Park against the Crocodile River. Comfortably nestled amongst the shady indigenous sickle bush trees, the porch of the cottage (with braai area and splash pool- perfect for summer!) has a cobbled walkway leading to to the fence of the Kruger itself. Common visitors to the boundary include families of elephants and other popular wildlife. At night, the roaring of lions can be heard, along with the whooping of hyenas. Mornings belong to the calls of fish eagles and hippo, while warthog, kudu and impala can be expected to make an appearance right by the porch as you sip your morning coffee. The cottage can sleep six adults, with the option to accomodate two additional children in the common area upstairs. Each bedroom has an en-suite bathroom, with one being perfectly fitted to cater to people with physical disabilities. The main bedroom has a king sized bed, while the other rooms have two single beds respectively. The open plan kithen and lounge areas blend into a convenient gathering spot, where guests can prepare meals together or simply relax and watch TV after a long day of game spotting.
