Araucaria cunninghamii Seeds Araucaria is a genus of evergreen coniferous trees in the family Araucariaceae. There are 19 extant species in the genus, with a Gondwanan natural distribution in New Caledonia (where 13 species are endemic), Norfolk Island, eastern Australia, New Guinea, Argentina, Chile, and southern Brazil. The genus is familiar to many people as the genus of the distinctive Chilean pine or monkey-puzzle tree, Araucaria araucana. No distinct vernacular name exists for the genus. Many are called "pine", although they are only distantly related to true pines, in the genus Pinus. Araucaria cunninghamii is a species of Araucaria known as hoop pine. Other less commonly used names include colonial pine, Queensland pine, Dorrigo pine, Moreton Bay pine and Richmond River pine. The scientific name honours the botanist and explorer Allan Cunningham, who collected the first specimens in the 1820s. The species is found in the dry rainforests of New South Wales and Queensland and in New Guinea. The trees can live up to 450 years and grow to a height of 60 metres. The barough, splits naturally, and peels easily. The leaves on young trees are awl-shaped, 1–2 cm long, about 2 mm thick at the base, and scale-like, incurved, 1–2 cm long and 4 mm broad on mature trees. The cones are ovoid, 8–10 cm long and 6–8 cm diameter, and take about 18 months to mature. They disintegrate at maturity to release the nut-like edible seeds. The wood is a high quality timber that is particularly important to the plywood industry and also used for furniture, veneer, joinery, panelling, particle board, flooring and boats. Most natural stands in Australia and Papua New Guinea have been depleted by logging. It is now mainly found on timber plantations; however, the species continues to thrive in protected areas, including Lamington National Park where at least one walking track is named after it.

Cupressus sempervirens, commonly known as the Mediterranean Cypress or Pencil pine, is a species of cypress native to the eastern Mediterranean region, in northeast Libya, southeast Greece), southern Turkey, Cyprus, western Syria, Lebanon and Jordan. It is a medium-sized evergreen tree to 35 m in height, with a conic crown with level branches and variably pendulous branchlets. It is very long-lived, with some trees reported to be over 1,000 years old. The foliage grows in dense sprays, dark green in colour. The leaves are scale-like, 2-5 mm long, and produced on rounded shoots. The seed cones are ovoid or oblong, 25-40 mm long, with 10-14 scales, green at first, maturing to a golden brown. The male cones are 3-5 mm long. Mediterranean Cypress has been widely cultivated as an ornamental tree for millennia away from its native range, mainly throughout the central and western Mediterranean region, and in other areas with similar hot, dry summers and mild, rainy winters. Pencil pines are hardy and will grow in all but the most severe climatic zones of Australia. They are also more tolerant of dry conditions than most other cypresses. It makes an excellent bonsai subject. Horticultural vermiculite improves soil aeration and retains moisture and nutrients such as ammonium, potassium, calcium and magnesium. It provides fast maximum growth for roots, cuttings and seeds. The pH is generally neutral, but may vary depending on where it comes from. It is clean, sterile, non-toxic, light in weight, and will not deteriorate, turn mouldy or rot. Mixes easily with soil, peat, composted pine bark, fertilizers, pesticides and herbicides. Mix with peat or pine bark compost to promote faster root growth and anchorage, and to store food and moisture to be released as the plant requires them. Vermiculite is excellent for the following uses: To root cuttings - Vermiculite will promote maximum root growth in less time. To mix with heavy or sandy soils - Vermiculite will aerate heavy soil and will allow sandy soil to hold more water. Seed germination - Use vermiculite alone or mixed with soil or peat. Very little watering is required. More seeds germinate - faster germination too! Because vermiculite is sterile, the threat of damping-off is virtually eliminated. Summer or winter mulch - Prevents drying out, insulates plants against cold. Floral arrangements - Flowers arranged in vermiculite will remain erect and fresh for days and there are no water spillage problems to worry about. Greener healthier lawns - Vermiculite acts as a constant reservoir of moisture, retards drying out and scorching during dry spells. Unfortunately, due to the nature of this product, we are unable to ship this item to buyers outside the borders of South Africa. On offer is a 50 Litre Box Click Here For Other Pack Sizes
