2015 paperback with 310 pages in very good condition. R65 postage in SA. It takes a tough mindset to be a successful sniper, to be able to dig in for days on your own as you wait for your target, to stay calm on a battlefield when you yourself have become the target the enemy most want to take out. Craig Harrison has what it takes and in November 2009 in Afghanistan, under intense pressure, he saved the lives of his comrades with the longest confirmed sniper kill - 2,475 meters. In this unflinching autobiography, Craig catapults us into the heat of the action as he describes his active service in the Balkans, Iraq and Afghanistan, and gives heart-stopping accounts of his sniper ops as he fought for his life on the rooftops of Basra and the barren hills of Helmand province. Craig was blown up by an IED in Afghanistan and left battling severe PTSD. After his identity was revealed in the press he also had to cope with Al Qaeda threats against him and his family. For Craig, the price of heroism has been devastatingly high.

A TRUE MOB STORY Synopsis: Pop singer Andy Lau stars as a low-level mobster who saves the life of a mob boss and becomes a gangster for life. At the same time his wife is killed and he must now raise his young son alone. The movie film opens spectacularly with Andy Lau watching his wife being killed in front his very eyes while he saves the life of a local crime boss. Five years later he finds himself trapped, The man who killed his wife is out of prison and wants to kill him for plucking out his eye, He has also lost his stature with the boss he saved who now tries to implicate him with false charges.  He is loved by two women, His wife's best friend Ruby, who has helped him raise his son through all the though years, and Sandy a beautiful attorney he hires to defend him, Sandy's boyfriend is an anti triad cop who is hell-bent on imprisoning him.  In the tradition of many great crime films Lau must carefully plan his actions pitting all of his enemies against each other in order to survive.  Wong Jing gives this film a highly stylized look, with many great editing techniques employed, It's a big glossy traditional HK crime melodrama that is a bit hard too find nowadays.  Some of the scenes are simply amazing, pay close attention to the scene where the children are having a birthday party outside the house while the parents are inside the house violently torturing an informant.    Starring: Andy Lay Stephan Shin   Category: Action, Martial Art    Age Restriction: 16 V

Majdalany, Fred. STATE OF EMERGENCY. The Full Story of the Mau Mau. London: longmans, 1962. First Edition. "The Mau Mau murdered and maimed more of their own people than anyone else. The witch craft ceremony used to induct them into their muder gangs, included bestiality, rape and order to kill members of their own family who were considered not friendly to the cause! Hardly an heroic group of freedom fighters. The white settler is a subject of much hatred, in todays Kenya - like much of Africa, which has descended into corruption, megalomaniac power elites and tribal conflict - the whites provide a convenient distraction as to the real crux of their problems." 239pp., b+w photos. Very Good. Little Bookshop sticker on fep. Covers a bit worn, otherwise a neat and tight copy. Hardcover. (##2617)

At last! The history of the Rhodesian Light Infantry. Weve seen the stories of the more glamorous Selous Scouts, the SAS and the Rhodesian Air Force, but very little about the RLI, often underrated, but arguably one of the most effective counter-insurgency units of all time. This was the unit that brought the Fireforce concept to the worlds attention - the devastatingly ruthless airborne envelopment and annihilation of a guerrilla enemy. Dubbed The Killing Machine by Charles D. Melson, chief historian of the US Marine Corps, the RLI was a veritable foreign legion with over 20 diverse nationalities serving in her ranks. The RLI, a truly international airborne battalion, comprising of over 20 nationalities, fought the bitter Zimbabwean bush war for 15 years against the overwhelming tide of communist-trained guerrillas. Kill rates dont win wars, but during its brief 19-year history, it is estimated that the RLI accounted for between 12,000 and 15,000 enemy guerrillas, for the loss of 135 men. RLI soldiers were recipients of four Silver Crosses and 42 Bronze Crosses of Rhodesia. An RLI trooper holds the world record for operational parachute descents - a staggering 73 op jumps - most under 500 feet! A glossy coffee-table, pictorial format with hundreds of colour photos, maps, rolls, honours and awards. It is not intended as a definitive history but, with more of a classic scrapbook feel, the presentation attempts to capture the essence of this fine unit - what it was like to be a troopie, one of the ouens. We have accessed a host of unique, previously unpublished photos and illustrative material and many former RLI members have embraced the project, generously contributing photos, memorabilia and anecdotes. Ian Smith has written his tribute in the front and the foreword is by the last CO, Lieutenant-Colonel Charlie Aust. PAPERBACK: 544 PAGES WITH  1,800 b/w illustrations & maps.  Published June 2007

See You In November The story of Alan `Taffy' Brice - An SAS assassin- By Peter Stiff - Galago - 2002 - Paperback still in good, tight condition. This is the extraordinary true story of how a British SAS-trained explosives expert plotted to kill Robert Mugabe in London and was stopped only hours before carrying out his death mission. The assassin, known only by his code name "Taffy" tells first hand of his SAS training and special operations in Malaya, Borneo, Cambodia, Kenya and Europe and his six years as head of the Rhodesian Central Intelligence Operation's covert team in Zambia, where, in 1975, they did assassinate the ZANU chairman Herbert Chitepo. In September 1979, he travelled to London with orders to kill Mugabe at the Lancaster House constitutional talks, by detonating a bomb in the foyer of the Royal Gardens Hotel, Kensington. The operation, codenamed November, was at trigger stage when it was called off. Unbeknown to him, British security had been tipped off, but the informer thought he was a Rhodesian SAS operator and not an ex-member of British SAS, so he was never caught.

Free delivery for purchases of R269 or more.   Beowulf: Inspired by the epic Old English poem of the same name, director Robert Zemeckis's digitally rendered film follows the Scandinavian hero Beowulf (Ray Winstone) as he fights to protect the Danes from a ferocious beast named Grendel (Crispin Glover). Though at first Grendel seems invincible, Beowulf eventually manages to defeat him in a desperate battle to the death. Devastated by her son's violent demise at the hands of Beowulf, Grendel's mother (Angelina Jolie) sets out in search of revenge. Later, Beowulf faces the biggest challenge of his life when he attempts to slay a powerful dragon. Anthony Hopkins, Robin Wright Penn, Alison Lohman, John Malkovich, and Brendan Gleeson co-star in an epic fantasy adventure penned by Roger Avary and Neil Gaiman. Jason Buchanan.   Beowulf and Grendel: The blood-soaked tale of a Norse warrior's battle against the great and murderous troll, Grendel. Heads will roll. Out of allegiance to the King Hrothgar, the much respected Lord of the Danes, Beowulf leads a troop of warriors across the sea to rid a village of the marauding monster. The monster, Grendel, is not a creature of mythic powers, but one of flesh and blood - immense flesh and raging blood, driven by a vengeance from being wronged, while Beowulf, a victorious soldier in his own right, has become increasingly troubled by the hero-myth rising up around his exploits. Beowulf's willingness to kill on behalf of Hrothgar wavers when it becomes clear that the King is more responsible for the troll's rampages than was first apparent. As a soldier, Beowulf is unaccustomed to hesitating. His relationship with the mesmerizing witch, Selma, creates deeper confusion. Swinging his sword at a great, stinking beast is no longer such a simple act. The story is set in barbarous Northern Europe where the reign of the many-gods is giving way to one - the southern invader, Christ. Beowulf is a man caught between sides in this great shift, his simple code transforming and falling apart before his eyes. Vengeance, loyalty and mercy powerfully entwine. A story of blood and beer and sweat, which strips away the mask of the hero-myth, leaving a raw and tangled tale.
