His life -- professional and personal -- is in ruins. His best friend is dead. His newspaper career is past tense. His ex is staying with him as her own marriage crumbles. On top of that, the former journalist finds himself in the eye of a dangerous storm; investigating a missing girl with an unexpected partner and inching closer and closer to a vicious, calculating killer cutting a swath of blood across Miami -- while at the same time battling his own personal demons that refuse to be silenced. Down the Darkest Street, the riveting sequel to Alex Segura's acclaimed debut, Silent City, tells a tale of redemption, survival and the sordid backstreets of Miami -- while asking the question that many are too scared to answer: When faced with pure darkness, would you fold or fight? From the author of the highly acclaimed 'The Whitest Flower' and its sequel comes a new novel just as vast in scope and powerful storytelling as its predecessors. Set against the backdrop of the American Civil War, the powerful new novel poignantly explores forgiveness, longing, and the changing role of women set free by war from the protection of their men. Ellen O'Malley, together with her natural daughter Mary and adopted daughter Louisa, helps tend the wounds of the soldiers who have fallen in battle. In the killing fields of Virginia she toils, not realising that her estranged son, Patrick, and Lavelle, the husband she desperately seeks, are on opposing sides of the terrible conflict. Meanwhile, Lavelle and Ellen's former lover, Stephen joyce, likewise seek her out - and each other - with tragic repercussions. The inspiring story of Ellen's race against the ravages of war is a tale of great loves, impossible choices and the triumph of the human spirit against all odds.

Alane Simpson Taylor takes the reader inside the Bixby Family circle, before and after they became ruthless murderers. December 8, 2003 became the deadliest day in Abbeville, South Carolina history when two law enforcement officers were senselessly gunned down over a strip of right-of-way for a highway widening project. A fourteen hour standoff ending in a shootout was indeed a dark day for the small rural community, drawing national attention. Those perpetrating the heinous crimes were not from South Carolina. They originated from New Hampshire, the Bixby family proudly declaring their live free or die rhetoric. by T Allen Winn (Author) Shipping Weight: 1.4 pounds (View shipping rates and policies) Paperback: 372 pages Publisher: Buttermilk Books (February 2, 2018) Language: English ISBN-10: 0997890967 ISBN-13: 978-0997890969 Product Dimensions: 6 x 0.9 x 9 inches Shipping Weight: 1.4 pounds (View shipping rates and policies)

It is ordered on demand from our supplier and is usually dispatched within 7 - 12 working days The follow-up to Bloody April 1917 continues fifteen months later into World War I. Much had happened over this period. More battles had been fought, won and lost on both sides, but now the American strength was feeding in to France with both men and material. With the mighty push on the French/American Front at St Mihiel on 12 September and then along the Meuse-Argonne Front from the 26th, once more masses of men and aircraft were put into the air. They were opposed by no less a formidable German fighter force than had the squadrons in April 1917 although the numbers were not in their favour. Nevertheless, the German fighter pilots were able to inflict an even larger toll of British, French and American aircraft shot down, making this the worst month for the Allied flyers during the whole of World War I - and this just a mere six weeks from the war's bloody finale. As with their previous book, the authors of Black September 1918 have analysed the daily events throughout September with the use of lists of casualties and claims from both sides. The book also contains seven detailed appendices examining the victory claims of all the air forces that fought during September 1918. Although it is difficult to pin-point exactly who was fighting who high above the trenches, by pouring over maps and carefully studying almost all the surviving records, the picture of `who got who' in the air slowly begins to emerge with deadly accuracy. Coinciding with the centenary of the end of World War I, Black September 1918 is a profusely illustrated and essential reference piece to understanding one of the crucial months of war in the skies.
