Zero is an adventure game. It features several protagonists visiting a very large haunted mansion. There are a number of characters are playable in this episode. The player's goal is to survive from ghosts' attacks and understand the mysteries behind the mansion, as well as revealing the link between the mansion and the player. During exploration phases inside the house, the game is played at the third-person view, where the playable character can be seen. The mansion is very dark and the player soon finds a flashlight to light up some elements of the background. Very early in the game, the player will also find a supernatural camera. This is the only weapon that can be used to fight ghosts; taking pictures of the ghosts will reduce their power until they disappear completely. While using the camera, the game is in first-person view where the player sees through the eyes of the character. The progress in the game is separated into different chapters so the player will control different protagonists of the story. There are some additional challenges for expert players, such as taking a picture of all the ghosts haunting the mansion. Several bonus items can be unlocked by completing these side quests.
