David's Confession evolved from his continuing fascination with winged creatures and man s desire to fly. Strictly speaking, I don t consider it autobiographical in any way, but I do relate to the universal theme of the struggle between good and evil, and the power of music to influence moral choices. It can be employed for good or evil. His first Afrikaans album, Oomblik van Waansin (with a title that is a tribute to Pink Floyds Momentary Lapse of Reason) is a deeply personal and lyrical chronicle of his own journey: It is about the way I grew up, my mom and dad, social influences. In 2001 he won a Geraas Award as the Best Songwriter in Afrikaans for Oomblik van Waansin. Mel's affinity for conceptual stage shows was demonstrated again in 2005 with the musical play Flight of Bird during the Aardklop Arts Festival in Potchefstroom. The production was nominated for an AngloGold Ashanti Smeltkroes Award. Composing soundtracks for movies and television drama has become one of his ways of expressing and stretching himself musically. He has created songs and incidental music for Song for Katryn 2 (with Valiant Swart), The Hitchhiker, Andries Plak, Running Riot with Bill Flynn, Dryfsand and Rainbow Skellums. His genial talent can not be described with words; it must be experienced. The CD is brand new and in mint condition.    Lucky Dube began his career by singing mbaqanga music in South Africa, and together with the Super Soul band, recorded his first album ‘Kudala Ngikuncenga’ as early as 1982.  The album was recorded during Lucky's school holidays when he was just 18 years old.  The album, although recorded with The Love Brothers, was released as 'Lucky Dube and The Super Soul'. Lucky was the lead singer but did not write any of the material on that first record.  His second album, Lengane Ngeyethu, came soon afterwards and Lucky was far more involved with the writing.  He recorded a few other mbaqanga albums, and this Afrikaans album before moving into reggae.  His early reggae albums include ‘Think about the Children’.  Then he began doling out the hits: his albums ‘Slave’, ‘Prisoner’ and ‘Together As One’ saw him catapult to recognition firstly regionally and then globally.  Lucky was tragically slain in an attempted hijacking in Johannesburg in 2007 whilst dropping off his children at a family members house.   Lucky recorded a few Afrikaans songs with Richard Saluma, including the 'Oom Hansie se Jol' and 'Help My Krap' mini-albums in 1985/86, both of which are included on this CD, rereleased in South Africa on the Gallo Records label in 2005.   LUCKY DUBE / OOM HANSIE Kaapse Dans En Anner Hits Label: Gallo Cat#: CDGSP 3073 Bar Code: 6001212122133 Format: CD Country: South Africa Released: 2006   Tracklist 1. The album came about when the band were asked to score the recently restored 1912 movie by the same name by legendary French director George Mlis. Heralded as not only the first ever Sci-Fi movie but also the first ever cinema Blockbuster, the colour version of the film was long thought destroyed but was found again in the 1990s and underwent a painstaking 10 year process to restore the movie to its original 17 minute glory. The film was premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in 2011 and has since toured the World film festival circuit with interest in Mlis' work peaking in December which was not only the 150th anniversary of Mlis' birth but also saw the release of the new Scorsese film Hugo in which Ben Kingsley plays the part of the pioneering French Director. After completing the score, Air were themselves inspired to turn their 17 minute soundtrack into a complete album which has become some of their strongest work to date. As they gave their skills and time for free, the Mlis Estate has in turn granted permission for a limited deluxe edition run of the album which includes the restored film as bonus content. This is a must have for fans of Air but also for fans of the legendary director Mlis as this deluxe edition of the album is the only place it is possible to see the film outside of the film festival circuit.
