Acer palmatum Suminagashi Seeds Japanese Maple 'Hogyoku' Owing to its striking autumn colour of bright pumpkin orange, this Japanese Maple cultivar is often referred to as "Jewel of Fall". This is a great landscape specimen with an upright, compact growing habit, attractive summer green foliage, stunning autumn colours and beautiful pale bark. This variety is hardy -20°Celsius and can grow to a mature height of approximately 4.5 meters. It responds well to pruning and is also suitable for container growing or bonsai culture. Maples are unrivalled for their autumn foliage colouring and variety of leaf shapes and textures. Maples are a very popular choice for the art of bonsai and many are compact enough for the average garden. Their flowers are green, yellow, orange or red and though individually small, the effect of an entire tree in flower can be striking in several species. Bark is another feature of some maples, although usually smooth grey or greenish, in the group known as the ‘snake bark maples’ it has longitudinal grey or red-brown stripes and in others it is flaky or papery. Most of the approximate 129 species come from East Asia, particularly China, where over 80 species can be found, Japan, with more than 20 species, and the eastern Himalayas. Most species are deciduous, but a few in southern Asia and the Mediterranean region are evergreen. Most maples prefer a cool, moist climate with ample rainfall in spring and summer. A planting position sheltered from strong winds suits them best. For best autumn colour, grow them in a neutral to acid soil. Propagation is generally from seed but grafting is also an option. Seed germination is aided by stratification. The bid amount is for 1 Seed Growing Instructions + a FREE Bonsai eBook will be sent to your email. WE ALLOW 30 DAYS FOR PAYMENT The Acer genus includes, but is not limited to the following species. Stenoglottis fimbriata Seeds Common names: Fringed Stenoglottis; Fraiing-Stenoglottis   This charming, mauve, ground orchid  is easily identified by the dark markings found on the leaves and flowers. Stenoglottis fimbriata is a terrestrial tuberous orchid, reaching a height of 300-400 mm. It is found growing in a very thin humus or moss layer on rocks or in humus-rich soil in rock crevices or on tree trunks or fallen logs in shaded forests. The root system consists of a clump of elongated, fleshy tuberous roots. The roots are hairy, which allows the plant to attach itself to rocks. Leaves are dark green, lanceolate, 5-20 arranged in a basal rosette, ± 150 mm long and ± 20 mm wide. Leaves display wavy margins with recurved tips and are dotted with dark purple spots. The flowering stem is slender, purple in colour, 300 mm tall, leafless and bears small, green, spotted bracts. The lilac-pink flowers, 5-50, vary in size and are loosely arranged on a raceme. The raceme continues to elongate as the flowers open over a period of several weeks. All parts of the flower are spotted and lilac-pink in colour. The dorsal sepal is narrowly ovate and 4-8 mm long. The petals are elliptic to narrow, 3-6 mm long and thus shorter than the sepals. The three-lobed lip is a distinctive identifying character of the plant. It is 6-15 mm long, paler than the sepals but more densely spotted. The lateral lobes of the lip are usually shorter than the central lobe. They are often barely toothed or almost subdivided. Stenoglottis fimbriata flowers from January to April. Growing orchids from seed is a fairly specialized undertaking and it requires a bit of understanding of tissue culture techniques. If you have never grown orchids from seed we recommend that before attempting this you should first contact your local Orchid Society, or purchase a book on the subject, or both! Stictocardia is a genus of herbaceous or woody climbers in the morning glory family, Convolvulaceae. The genus name Stictocardia means ‘dotted heart’ in reference to the dark glands at the lower leaf surface of the heart shaped leaves.  Stictocardia macalusoi commonly known as Scarlet African Morning Glory is a very rare indigenous perennial robust climber with dark purple to blue vines covered in large heart-shaped leaves.         It bears very showy large red trumpet shaped flowers with yellow centres all year round. This plant is well suited to pot culture as well as being used under trees where they are allowed to scramble up lower branches. Stictocardia macalusoi will easily cover any trellis, fence or lattice support in one season. Stictocardia macalusoi will bloom more profusely than its cousin Stictocardia beraviensis and is much more dramatic in its colour intensity and form. Stictocardia seeds need to be scarified before soaking overnight and sowing the next morning. Barely nick the hard outer seed coat with a file, sandpaper or nail clippers. Be very careful not to nick too deep so as to damage the embryo, the white part inside the seed. Seed germinates easily in a damp mixture of fine humus-rich soil with some sand. A glass sheet on top helps keep the soil moist but do allow some air to circulate. Newspaper on top of the glass will help germination by keeping the seeds dark. Use light soil rich in humus but with good drainage and add some super phosphate. Water the plant well at first and then moderately all year but especially in summer. Add compost at planting time and again 2 or 3 times per summer, as mulch. Give an occasional dressing of fertilizer for flowering plants (with ratio of N:P:K = 3:1:5) or a general fertilizer (ratio of 2:3:2).

Gloriosa is a genus of ten species in the plant family Colchicaceae, and include the formerly recognised genus Littonia. They are native in tropical and southern Africa to Asia and naturalised in Australia and the Pacific as well as being widely cultivated worldwide. The most common English names are flame lily, fire lily, gloriosa lily, glory lily, superb lily, climbing lily, and creeping lily. They are tender, tuberous rooted deciduous climbing perennials, adapted to summer rainfall with a dormant dry season.         They are also very well suited to pot culture which means that you can successfully grow them in pots in areas that receive frost. If left undisturbed in containers they will multiply like crazy. They make excellent cut flowers and last up to 10 days in a vase. The genus name Gloriosa comes from the word gloriosus, which means handsome. Gloriosa greenii is similar in colour to Gloriosa lutea but is characterized by broad, thick, leathery petals that do not have frilly edges. This is a rare deep lemon yellow variant which produces the longest lasting flowers. It can grow up to 2m or more producing many flowers throughout the summer. The long lasting flowers make it excellent for cut flower use. The tubers go dormant during autumn. Each single tuber after flowering dies, producing two tubers. It has some medicinal uses and is used in preparations to treat intestinal worms, bruises, infertility, skin problems and impotence.

One of the attributes that make Nigiro's blends of fine teas so very special is the fact that each variation has its own unique hue and drinking it out of a normal cup would be like covering a fine work of art with a drab old sheet. Whether you're enjoying a few moments to yourself with a warm cup of delight or sharing a couple of different blends with a friend in a tea tasting, the transparent cup and saucer will let you keep an eye on your own tea as well as peek into your neighbour's cup to compare variations and witness colour changes that occur at different steeping stages.  Transparency and a spirit of sharing is all integral to the tea drinking culture that Nigiro is aiming to inspire in South Africa and it's one that we sure are happy to be a part of.  Each glass cup and saucer is hand blown in Yama, Taiwan.

Eulophia zeyheri  Seeds Eulophia is a very large pantropical genus and is represented in southern Africa by 45 orchid species. The plants grow terrestrially in small to large colonies in grassland, marshes, savanna and scrub, and occasionally also in fynbos. With their open and often also fairly large flowers in brilliant colours, they resemble 'typical orchids' more than other indigenous South African orchids. Flowering occurs in spring or summer. Plants have underground corms or partly aerial pseudobulbs. Leaves, which may be absent or present at the flowering time, are either thin-tissued or leathery (sometimes even succulent). The erect inflorescences are always lateral and bear a number of medium-sized or large flowers. In most species these are resupinate (lip facing down). Sepals and petals are normally simple and always unspurred. The lip is most commonly three-lobed and usually has a basal sac or spur. On its upper surface it has various outgrowths like crests, papillae or lamellae, but a large lip appendage as in Pterygodium is not present. The column is stout to elongate and has a prominent undifferentiated column-part. Apically it bears the anther (pollen sac) which is positioned under a 'lid' called the anther cap. The stigma is situated in a cavity on the front side of the column below the anther. Growing orchids from seed is a fairly specialized undertaking and it requires a bit of understanding of tissue culture techniques. If you have never grown orchids from seed we recommend that before attempting this you should first contact your local Orchid Society, or purchase a book on the subject, or both! Eulophia zeyheri is a South African indigenous species from the Eastern Cape, Free State, Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo, Mpumalanga and North West Provinces. It is synonymously known as Orthochilus welwitschii, Eulophia bicolor and Eulophia woodii. It grows to 90 cm tall in grassland. This summer rainfall plant has stiff erect pleated leaves. During summer it bears a dense inflorescence of large yellow flowers with reddish purple colour in centre. The seeds of this species are best sown in spring. The bid amount is for 1 Seed

Pterygodium magnum  Seeds Pterygodium is a small African genus, represented by 19 orchid species  in southern Africa and one in Tanzania. The plants are slender herbs with small to medium-sized flowers, and are often hard to recognize as orchids. They are found in a variety of different habitats, ranging from fynbos and bushveld to grassland. Some species are very common and easy to find, but others are known only from one or few sites and are rare even there. Most grow in small to large colonies. A mass display of P. acutifolium with hundreds or thousands of plants can often be seen in mountain marshes after fire, and P. alatum is normally found in dense clusters of countless individuals. Some species are known for their rather unpleasant odour, which can be quite strong. Pollination is by oil-collecting bees. Flowering occurs in spring or summer, with some species flowering mainly after fire. The plants grow terrestrially and have underground root tubers. Most species are less than 50 cm tall, but P. magnum has erect stems of up to 1.5 m length and is thus our tallest orchid. Leaves are lanceolate (lance-shaped) and borne all along the stem; they vary in number from one to many. Inflorescences are terminal and are laxly or densely one- to many-flowered. The small or medium-sized flowers are borne on unbranched spikes, with their colour ranging from yellow to green and white, and sometimes with a purple or maroon flush. While flowers of most species are resupinate (lip facing down), there are also two species with non-resupinate flowers. Flowers are generally open and cup-like which is an important difference to the otherwise very similar and closely related genus Corycium. The small and normally narrow lip is linear to deltate and has an elongate appendage. In structure the column is very complicated, with the two anther thecae (pollen sacs) separated and situated on the corners of an elongate horseshoe-shaped connecting part, and the two stigma pads on the median carpel. Growing orchids from seed is a fairly specialized undertaking and it requires a bit of understanding of tissue culture techniques.
