It is very easy to play, with a lovely neck and easy action, despite the way many of the guitars from this period were set up. The tone is thick yet clear, and has that essential warm, mysterious and moody quality that made Ramirez famous. It features first rate materials and is in very good for its age, although there are a few well-repaired cracks on the top, as well as a golpeador (tap-plate) attached to protect from playing wear. Masaru Kohno () is arguably Japan’s most important luthier, and of course one of the most played, concertized and recorded of the 20th century. Top players of Kohno guitars include Julian Bream, Oscar Ghiglia, Sharon Isbin and Shinichi Fukuda, among others. Although Kohno began building guitars in , it wasn’t until returning back to Japan in , after a 6-month trip to Spain (where he apprenticed with Arcangel Fernandez) that he established his successful workshop.
