Power Monger Mega Drive  - Boxed, Very Good Condition, Complete The player starts out on each map with a small number of soldiers, and maybe a few towns already under control. To win the map, the balance of power needs to be tipped completely to the player's side (represented by a scale below the mini-map), by conquering all (or at least most) of the towns on the map, and killing any opposing captains. Once a town is under the player's control, locals can be drafted into the player's army and bigger towns or enemy armies can be taken on. Some of the bigger towns also have neutral captains and if these survive the battle they come under the player's command as well. The player can only control as many armies as captains, so it is important to keep them alive. If a captain is killed, his army is disbanded and his surviving soldiers go back to their town of origin. Unlike the player's main army - which the main character commands - the subordinate captains have a "lag" time (indicated by a tiny  homing pigeon  animation next to their command icon) before their commands are executed. The further away from the player's main character they are, the longer it takes for orders to reach them. Food is the single most important resource in the game. Aside from friendly towns the player can also slaughter wandering sheep, barter food from neutral towns, or kill an enemy captain and pillage his food supply. Aside from manpower and food towns can also provide equipment. Townspeople will occasionally make items, but to speed things up the player can order an army to "invent" at a friendly town. You will interact like never before with the environment: stealing enemy uniforms and weapons, climbing poles, swinging from cables, swimming, using vehicles and climbing in and out of buildings, ships and planes. You will control nine commandos, including a Green Beret, a sniper, a demolitions expert, a seductress, a thief and even a dog. The game features an all-new 3-D engine, allowing you to rotate the environment through 360 degrees, move seamlessly in and out of buildings, submarines, planes, and water and zoom in and out when viewing the environment. The innovative camera control allows simultaneous manipulation of multiple gameplay windows in real time. Commandos 2: Men of Courage includes 10 missions spanning nine different night and day environments with realistic weather effects. Go to war with others in a cooperative multiplayer mode and use new WWII vehicles and weapons such as jeeps, tanks, trucks, ships, bazookas and flamethrowers. Review Taking third-person action and strategy to new heights, Commandos 2 for the PlayStation 2 and Xbox is a great example of how to tackle the real-time strategy genre properly. Set over 10 missions in theatres of war across the globe, this is no place for gung-ho grunts. Care and thought are required in huge amounts before a shot is fired or the might of half the German army will descend and drill you full of holes--not a pleasant thought. From the word go this game is hard. Very hard. Rarely does it cut you any slack; one wrong move and it's game over. Initially this can be very irritating, but persevere and Commandos 2 is a real gem. The game's designers have thought of just about everything when it comes to running, crawling, tip-toeing and creeping past the enemy--there are around 100 very short tutorial missions designed to introduce the control system and the various vehicle, weapon and stealth techniques available to the player, and these alone will take a couple of hours to play through; skipping them is a really bad idea if you want the best from this title. In addition to wandering around on foot, a wide variety of vehicles can be commandeered and driven around (usually badly). Tanks can be used as offensive weapons, and boats are available for water-based missions. All of this Nazi-busting malarkey is brought to you by a squad of combatants including six commandos, each with their own special ability, a female member of the French Resistance, a dog and a rat (!), which makes for interesting gaming indeed. Its relatively slow pace will put many folks off, but stick with it you'll find that and Commandos 2 is one of the best RTS games to hit consoles to date. -- Chris Russell
