Coetzee centers on the crisis of conscience and morality of 'The Magistrate' - a loyal servant of the Empire working in a tiny frontier town, doing his best to ignore an inevitable war with the "barbarians". Waiting for the Barbarians is an allegory of oppressor and oppressed. Not just a man living through a crisis of conscience in an obscure place in remote times, the Magistrate is an analogue of all men living in complicity with regimes that ignore justice and decency.   A passion for books and a passion for collecting fine editions was the recipe that created the successful group of bookshops in Johannesburg called Bookdealers. Subtitle: The Sectarian Movement of the Dead Sea Scrolls Author: John J. Collins Publisher: William B. Eerdmans () ISBN-10: ISBN-13: Condition: Very Good. Slight wear to cover corners. Binding: Softcover Pages: 266 Dimensions: 22.8 x 15.2 x 1.8 cm +++ by John J. Collins +++ With the full publication of the Dead Sea Scrolls, fresh analysis of the evidence presented can be and indeed, should be made. Beyond the Qumran Community does just that, reaching a surprising conclusion: the sect described in the Dead Sea Scrolls developed later than has usually been supposed and was never confined to the site of Qumran. John J. Collins here deconstructs the Qumran community? and shows that the sectarian documents actually come from a text spread throughout the land. He examines the Community Rule, or Yahad, and considers the Teacher of Righteousness, a pivotal figure in the Essene movement. After examining the available evidence, Collins concludes that it is, in fact, overwhelmingly likely that the site of Qumran housed merely a single settlement of a very widespread movement.   A passion for books and a passion for collecting fine editions was the recipe that created the successful group of bookshops in Johannesburg called Bookdealers. Binding: Quarter cream vellum. Pages: 24 pages of prelims and 450 pages of text, illustrations and appendices. Dimensions: Folio. 40.5 x 30.5 x 7 cm +++ Edited by T.D. Kendrick +++ In the s and s, the artistic director of the  Urs Graf Verlag  publishing house was the eminent thinker and scholar of antiquities, Titus Burckhardt. Under his direction, Urs Graf Verlag embarked on the publication of a series of facsimiles of ancient hand-made manuscripts, such as the Book of Kells and the Ilias Ambrosiana. These productions were of such high quality technically and intellectually that they were highly acclaimed by both experts and the wider public. All the Urs Graf facsimiles were limited editions much prized by collectors, but they were also acquired by museums and by the major libraries. The Lindisfarne Gospel Codex, created in the 8th century contains the four gospels of the New Testament Bible - Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. It is a year old, hand-made illuminated manuscript, which is housed in the British Museum. The Urs Graf facsimile for sale here, is a complete reproduction of the original codex, bound in vellum with tipped-in colour plates. Only 680 copies were produced. When permission was granted by the British Museum for Urs Graf Verlag to go ahead with the production of the complete facsimile, a decision was also taken to organize a comprehensive study by a panel of experts to cover all aspects of the Lindisfarne Gospels. The accompanying commentary volume contains the results of the exhaustive study they conducted. The result is a triumph of classical scholarship.
