. Book Description: Pantheon, New York, 2005. Hardcover. Book Condition: Near Fine. - First American Edition. First Printing. No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency, Book 6. - The charming and ever-resourceful Precious Ramotswe finds herself overly beset by problems. She is already busier than usual at the detective agency when added to her concerns are a strange intruder in her house on Zebra Drive and the baffling appearance of a pumpkin. And then there is Mma Makutsi, who decides to treat herself to dance lessons, only to be partnered with a man who seems to have two left feet. Nor are things running quite as smoothly as they usually do at Tlokweng Road Speedy Motors. Mma Ramotswe's husband, the estimable Mr. J.L.B. Matekoni, is overburdened with work even before one of his apprentices runs off with a wealthy woman. But what finally rattles Mma Ramotswe's normally unshakable composure is a visitor who forces her to confront a secret from her past.... All this unfolds against the sunlit background of Mma Ramotswe's beloved homeland, Botswana - a land of empty spaces, echoing skies, and an endless supply of soothing bush tea. *N.B.*   If you buy more than one book from me you only pay R 6 postage on each additional book – see what else I have to offer, it might be worth your while.

'I was quite a cheerful person, you know, in spite of what happened to us.' In 1944, at the age of fifteen, Marceline Loridan-Ivens was arrested in occupied France, along with her father. They were sent to Auschwitz-Birkenau in Poland. When they arrived, they were forcibly separated. Though he managed to smuggle a last note to her via an electrician, she never spoke to him again. But You Did Not Come Back is Marceline's letter to the father she would never know as an adult, to the man whose death has enveloped her life. With poignant honesty, she tells him of the events that have continued to haunt her, of the collapse of their family, and of her efforts to find a place in a changing world. This is a breathtaking memoir by an extraordinary woman, and an intimate and deeply moving message from a daughter to her father. Yum! But first, Aunt Sara gives the friends a tour of the whole farm, where they learn what it means to eat balanced meals, why eating local food matters and all that goes into getting food from farm to table. Who knew there was so much to learn about what we eat? It makes everything taste better!Award-winning author and illustrator Scot Ritchie uses accessible and entertaining language and familiar characters from his other books to encourage young children to make healthy choices about what they eat. Each stop on the farm tour introduces a basic food group: the field of wheat and oats for grains, the garden for vegetables, the henhouse for protein, the barn for dairy and the orchard for fruit. Ritchie's cheerful, busy illustrations invite children to look closer at the details. This is a terrific book for a science or health lesson to broaden young children's understanding of healthy eating and why local food matters. The potluck dinner includes a multicultural group of neighbors and provides opportunities for discussions about community involvement. There is an apple crisp recipe at the end of the story. Also provided are a table of contents and glossary.
