It also lets you perform some utterly outrageous stunts as you parasail behind boats and jump from a moving aircraft straight onto a road convoy miles below you. Since you ask: Instead of storing the island of San Esperito as a gigantic map the game uses a new technique called procedural synthesis to create the landscape on the fly. This is the only way to make such large scale graphics work on the PS2, especially when youre flying miles above the island. Predictable maybe, but it does set the scene for a very involving game with a very long play life. For while at heart this is a simulation, the sub elements and quests--while still allowing reasonably free gameplay--do certainly keep you interested. Unfortunately, the depth of the game will no doubt act as a deterrent to the more casual gamer, and perhaps rightly so. For one thing, it's not too easy a game to get to grips with, as even controlling your craft on a basic level will take a bit of work, and also, to really get into it, you're going to have to devote yourself to the cause. However, if you are willing to invest the time and are mildly tempted, then you really are in for a treat. For this is one of the most polished and engrossing games of its type on the PC.
