The original owner of this item was in the Rhodesian Army and in the BSAP Police Reserve (Blue Group Stick Leader). He made this display himself. The plastic covering is just a normal plastic covering. All items seem to be glued on the WWII Burma Star material colours background etc., for his service in WWII on the HMS Test. The plastic covering might show defects which are not actually on the items themselves. The back plaque cloth is that of the Southern Rhodesia Staff Corps. PATCHES: RHODESIA               : Never stitched, but glued. RHODESIAN ARMY  : Never stitched, but glued. BSAP RESERVE      : Never stitched, but glued. POLICE RESERVE   : Used, but good condition. Seems to have been washed. Glued. BSAP BLUE GROUP: Never used or stitched, but glued. BADGES (L-R): No. 1.: Very good condition: No lugs or pin. No. 2.: Very good condition, detail good. No lugs or pin. No. 3.: Very good condition, no lugs or pin. Glue visible under bottom paw area. No. 4.: Set: The first 3 all fine from top view, the last 3 where corners somewhat point together, has glue on top of those corners. RHODESIAN ARMY PATCH: You need to ignore the plastic covering, so hence the actual Rhodesian Army patch itself, basically ONLY has the following main faults on it top end: 1. Directly above the lion's left ear (Closest to his tail) is one white spot (On the red cotton border), the one to the view-able right of that, is a reflection only etc. 2. Directly below the pick handle bottom side, on the red cotton border, is one white spot. 3. On the RHS edge of the vertical red cotton border, as indicated by the white indicators, the green patch material comes through the red stitching a bit in 3 places, mainly on the thin edge side, not the top so much. That's about it.... Since this is an original person's plaque, I don't care to open it or interfere with it as such. Feel free to ask questions. Thanks....

Peter Gibbs was born in London in 1903, educated at Aldenham, and lived in Bulawayo since 1936. A number of his books have been published in London and New York. He served in the BSA Police Reserve for 21 years, retiring with the rank of reserve superintendent. He was awarded the MBE in 1964. He is deceased. Hugh Phillips was born in the UK and immigrated to Southern Rhodesia in 1951 to join the BSAP. He attained the rank of assistant commissioner prior to his retirement after nearly 30 years' service. Prior to returning to the UK in 2002, he was involved, without success, in liaison activities between the Commercial Farmers Union and Zimbabwean government in efforts to bring a more pragmatic outlook and policy towards the white farm invasions. Hugh wrote Part 3 of this history, covering the period from 1939 to 1980. Nick Russell joined the BSAP as a cadet in 1975 and served at Sinoia and Kariba before attending Morris Depot where he formed part of the mounted squad for the opening of parliament. After graduation he was posted to uniform-branch duties at Mount Darwin and substations in the district. He transferred to Special Branch and spent two years, mostly in the Mt Darwin area, until the cessation of hostilities. He now lives in Australia. The BSAP held the honour of occupying the Right of the Line-one of the greatest police forces of the British Empire and Commonwealth In 1889 Cecil John Rhodes was granted a royal charter by Queen Victoria to settle Mashonaland, in what was to become Southern Rhodesia. So was formed the British South Africa Company; its regiment of troopers raised to protect the occupying Pioneer Column dubbed the British South Africa Police, the BSAP. From the 1893 Matabele War, the 1896 Mashona Rebellion and the Jameson Raid, the Anglo-Boer War, through both world wars and finally to the bitter Rhodesian bush war of the 1960s and '70s, troopers and officers of this fine regiment of policemen, both black and white, were proudly to the fore, in civilian and military roles... until the disbandment of the Force in 1980 when the country became the independent Zimbabwe. HARDBACK: 620 PAGES & 750 COLOR & B/W PHOTOS, PLATES, SKETCHES & MAPS AUTHORS: PETER GIBBS, HUGH PHILLIPS & NICK RUSSELL

People who have stolen from me by David Cohen First edition   The story of Harry Rubin and Jack Sher who runs a Johannesburg furniture business and is robbed repeatedly. A study of crime and theft, where people in the new South Africa feel stealing is taking back what they perceive they own and which is now South Africa ’s biggest growth industry.  It reveals the hidden psychology of the perpetrators, black and white, including friends, staff and fraudsters and how the social forces at work in South Africa believe that they can steal what really belong to them in the first place. Written on the tenth anniversary of the fall of apartheid, People who have stolen from me is a  wry, witty but revealing look at a situation that has made South Africa a corrupt and conscienceless, thieving society.    Picador Africa First edition p.
