"The Brave Collection" is a limited series of challenge coins where the recipients of various bravery awards in the SADF or SAP are honored. Each coin is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity signed by the decorated recipient. A limited number of only 30 coins were manufactured. The coin diameter is 50mm. Herman van Niekerk is a Retired South African Special Forces Colonel with a Masters degree in Business Administration. He left the military in 1999 after 27 years service and started his own company which specialized in security related training and development in South Africa and various other countries in Africa. In November 2010 he joined MARITIME RISK SOLUTIONS as Director of Operations and major shareholder, a company which protects vessels at sea against attacks from pirates and other criminals. The "Herman van Niekerk coin" is #6 in the series.

Staff Sergeant JJ (Koos) Moorcroft, who was attached to 1 Reconnaissance Regiment, was awarded the Van Riebeeck medal for bravery for an operation in Tanzania in 1974. From 1993 to 2001 he was  Sergeant Major of the South African Army. The "Koos Moorcroft coin" is #7 in the series.
