From Russia, with Love   is the fifth novel by the English author   Ian Fleming   to feature his fictional British   Secret Service   agent   James Bond. Fleming wrote the story in early 1956 at his   Goldeneye estate   in Jamaica; at the time he thought it might be his final Bond book. The novel was first published in the United Kingdom by   Jonathan Cape   on 8 April 1957. The story centres on a plot by  SMERSH, the Soviet  counter-intelligence  agency, to assassinate Bond in such a way as to discredit both him and his organisation. As bait, the Russians use a beautiful cipher clerk and the Spektor, a Soviet decoding machine. Much of the action takes place in  Istanbul  and on the  Orient Express. The book was inspired by Fleming's visit to Turkey on behalf of  The Sunday Times  to report on an  Interpol  conference; he returned to Britain by the Orient Express.  From Russia, with Love  deals with the East–West tensions of the  Cold War, and the decline of British power and influence in the post-Second World War era. In  good condition (2013) SUNDAY TIMES No.1 bestseller Ian Rankin returns with his gripping new Rebus novel.Rebus is back on the force, albeit with a demotion and a chip on his shoulder. A 30-year-old case is being reopened, and Rebus's team from back then is suspected of foul play. With Malcolm Fox as the investigating officer, are the past and present about to collide in a shocking and murderous fashion? And does Rebus have anything to hide? His old colleagues called themselves 'the Saints', and swore a bond on something called 'the Shadow Bible'. But times have changed and the crimes of the past may not stay hidden much longer, especially with a referendum on Scottish independence just around the corner. Who are the saints and who are the sinners? And can the one ever become the other?

On the eve of the bloody Battle of the Somme, a group of English officers having a last drink before returning to the Front make a promise to each other: if they survive the battle ahead-and make it through the war-they will meet in Paris a year after the fighting ends. They will celebrate their good fortune by racing motorcars they beg, borrow, or own from Paris to Nice. In November 1919, the officers all meet as planned, and though their motorcars are not designed for racing, they set out for Nice. But a serious mishap mars the reunion. In the mountains just north of their destination, two vehicles are nearly run off the road, and one man is badly injured. No one knows-or will admit to knowing-which driver was at the wheel of the rogue motorcar. Back in England one year later, during a heavy rainstorm, a driver loses control on a twisting road and is killed in the crash. Was it an accident due to the hazardous conditions? Or premeditated murder? Is the crash connected in some way to the unfortunate events in the mountains above Nice the year before? The dead driver wasn't in France-although the motorcar he drove was. If it was foul play, was it a case of mistaken identity? Or was the dead man the intended victim after all? Investigating this perplexing case, Scotland Yard Inspector Ian Rutledge discovers that the truth is elusive-and that the villages on the South Downs, where the accident happened, are adept at keeping secrets, frustrating his search. Determined to remain in the shadows this faceless killer is willing to strike again to stop Rutledge from finding him. This time, the victim he chooses is a child, and it will take all of Rutledge's skill to stop him before an innocent young life is sacrificed.  Cricket's Great All-Rounders: Kersi Meher-Homji "From George Giffen of the 1880's and Nugget Miller, to Freddie Flintoff and the dreadlocked Andrew Symonds of the 2000's, this is the first book to profile all-rounders in Tests and One-Day Internationals. In the foreword Alan Davidson says that the book made him feel nostalgic. 'To me 'Nugget', Garry Sobers and Ian Botham were the greatest all- rounders. Kersi has brought their and all other all-rounders mighty deeds to life.' Kersi's Cricket Blog"

Black & Blue by Ian Rankin (Paperback)   Bible John killed three women, and took three souvenirs. Johnny Bible killed to steal his namesake's glory. Oilman Allan Mitchelson died for his principles. And convict Lenny Spaven died just to prove a point. "Bible John" terrorized Glasgow in the sixties and seventies, murdering three women he met in a local ballroom--and he was never caught. Now a copycat is at work. Nicknamed "Bible Johnny" by the media, he is a new menace with violent ambitions.  The Bible Johnny case would be perfect for Inspector John Rebus, but after a run-in with a crooked senior officer, he's been shunted aside to one of Edinburgh's toughest suburbs, where he investigates the murder of an off-duty oilman. His investigation takes him north to the oil rigs of Aberdeen, where he meets the Bible Johnny media circus head-on. Suddenly caught in the glare of the television cameras and in the middle of more than one investigation, Rebus must proceed wiht caution: One mistake could mean an unpleasant and not particularly speedy death, or, worse still, losing his job.  Written with Ian Rankin's signature wit, style and intricacy, Black and Blue is a novel of uncommon and unforgettable intrigue.
