It is ordered on demand from our supplier and is usually dispatched within 24 hours South Africa in the 1970s was a divided and increasingly traumatised country, seemingly permanently in the toils of apartheid, and with little space available for open discussion of apartheid policies or awareness of just what those policies were meaning in the lives of people. It was in this context that David Philip, a South African already involved for several years in publishing, became convinced there must be more opportunity for books with informed discussion and debate to be written and published within the country. He persuaded his wife Marie, also with publishing experience, that they could together set up their own independent publishing company, to publish 'Books that matter for Southern Africa'- in social history, politics, literature, or whatever, good of their kind and ready to challenge mainstream apartheid thinking. This is an anecdotal account - a memoir - of the lows and highs of a small, cheerful, underfunded but vibrant 'oppositional' publishing company, David Philip Publishers, from the year 1971 through to the birth of the new South Africa. Features Summary South Africa in the 1970s was a divided and increasingly traumatised country, seemingly permanently in the toils of apartheid, and with little space available for open discussion of apartheid policies or awareness of just what those policies were meaning in the lives of people.   This Hardcover is in Pristine Condition! *** 895 Pages of Unblemished Bliss and Riveting Fantasy *** Here together for the first time in one volume are the first two books in Terry Brooks’ enthralling epic, The Heritage of Shannara. Since the death of the Druid Allanon, the Four Lands have changed profoundly, with magic strictly forbidden in the Southland, now under totalitarian rule. In Book One,  The Scions of Shannara,  Par Ohmsford, descendant of the fabled Shea and possesor of the power of the Wishsong, accidentally brings a mythic horror to life, and a man calling himself Cogline drives it away. Cogline brings a message from Allanon: venture to the dread Hadeshorn, along with the other Scions of Shannara– Par, his brother Coll, Wren, and Walker Boh. On the way to the Hadeshorn, they must face the dangerous Shadowen. When they finally arrive, Allanon's spirit reveals a dangerous secret. In the future, all life in the Four Lands will be destroyed. To prevent this terrible fate, Allanon commands Par to recover the long-lost Sword of Shannara, a task that is next to impossible. Ancient evil forces remain in control of the Four Lands in  The Druid of Shannara. To restore the Keep of the Druid Allanon, Walker Boh sets out on a journey to find the black Elfstone. After narrowly escaping death, he learns that the Elfstone lies in the hands of the Stone King. Now Walker Boh must venture into perilous, unknown lands with a strange band of fellow travelers that includes Morgan Leah, whose once-magic sword has been broken; Quickening, the daughter of the ancient King; and Pe Ell, an assassin who hatches his own dark, sinister plot. Can they capture the black Elfstone and restore peace to the Four Lands?

Book still in an excellent unmarked condition.   >>>     I guess I never considered to put this book in my Goodreads library because it isn't "my" book... it's my daughter's.  But given the number of times that I have read through it this year, I realized I like it a whole lot. And hey! It's a book that I've read! So who cares if it wasn't exactly one of my choosing. I particularly love the poems... through them I learned about Christopher Robin's brother, John. (I didn't know Christopher Robin had a brother!) My daughter loves the Heffalump story - especially the conclusion, which is sometimes the only part of the story that she'll let me read.:) Overall, it's a wonderful collection.  (Goodreads) *N.B.*  If you buy more than one book from me on the same day you only pay R 6 extra postage on each of  the additional books  – Please see what else I have to offer, it might just be worth your while – Also note that I am only able to post once a week.

Paperback. English. Methuen. 1959. 361pp. Good condition in hardcover with tatty dw. The Golden Age/Dream Days/Wind in the Willows One of the all-time great animal stories and a true classic of children’s literature by Kenneth Grahame. The Wild Wood seems a terrifying place to Mole, until he finds it’s full of friends - Kind, sleepy Badger; brave and lively Ratty; and the irresponsible Mr Toad, famous for his wealth and his car smashes. But there are also the sinister weasels and stoats, and they capture Toad Hall when Mr Toad is in jail. How will he escape? And can the friends fight together to save Toad Hall? Kenneth Grahame’s classic The Wind in the Willows needs no introduction. Entertaining adults and children alike for over a hundred years, characters such as Ratty, Mole, Badger and, of course, the irrepressible Mr Toad have influenced children’s animal stories ever since. Fun, exciting, whimsical and dangerous at times, The Wind in the Willows can’t help but spark a child’s imagination. In this Egmont Heritage edition, Kenneth Grahame’s animal book, is made all the more beautiful and enthralling thanks to the original illustrations by E. H. Shepard, the man who also drew Winnie-the-Pooh. A stunning gift book for any child or inner child.

About the product With a supplementary chapter by John L. Comaroff, and a supplementary bibliography by Adam Kuper. 233 x 155 mm; card wrappers; pp. 93, incl. index; map; tables. Wrappers and edges foxed, occasional fox spot elsewhere; earlier bookseller's ink stamp to half-title. Good."Originally published as part of the Ethnographic Survey of Africa by the International African Institute, this study of the Tswana, now in its seventh reprint, has proved one of the most respected and popular in the series. Succinctly written, it is a thorough study of a major division of the Sotho group of the Bantu-speaking peoples of Southern Africa. The Tswana, whose main homeland is Botswana, have been much written about in the twentieth century; this study, together with Professor Schapera's other writings on the Tswana, forms a very significant section of our knowledge and understanding of an important group. Continually referred to by other leading anthropologists, it remains a classic."

In this captivating memoir, written over five years of reflection, Robbie employs his unique storyteller's voice to weave together the journey that led him to some of the most pivotal events in music history. He recounts the adventures of his half-Jewish, half-Mohawk upbringing on the Six Nations Indian Reserve and on the gritty streets of Toronto; his odyssey at sixteen to the Mississippi Delta, the fountainhead of American music; the wild, early years on the road with rockabilly legend Ronnie Hawkins and the Hawks; his unexpected ties to the Cosa Nostra underworld; the gripping trial-by-fire of 'going electric' with Bob Dylan on his 1966 world tour and their ensuing celebrated collaborations; the formation of the Band and the forging of their unique sound, culminating with history's most famous farewell concert, brought to life for all time in Martin Scorsese's great movie The Last Waltz. This is the story of a time and place - the moment when rock 'n' roll became life, when legends like Buddy Holly and Bo Diddley crisscrossed the circuit of clubs and roadhouses from Texas to Toronto, when the Beatles, Hendrix, the Stones and Warhol moved through the same streets and hotel rooms. It's the story of exciting change as the world tumbled through the '60s and early '70s and a generation came of age, built on music, love and freedom. Above all, it's the moving story of the profound friendship among five young men who together created a new kind of popular music. Testimony is Robbie Robertson's story, lyrical and true, as only he could tell it. It suggests how to create an environment in which everybody works together in an exciting and refreshing way — a paradigm shift in the way business analysis projects are done. The IT industry has to move to a point where it realises that the users of IT systems and the technical personnel are both equally responsible for getting the system to work. The users of the IT system should be an integral part of the team when the system is being put together. This, unfortunately, is not the norm within the industry. It is the business analyst's responsibility, among others, to make sure that communication flows freely between all the parties involved. This book gives the business analyst the tools and techniques to find out what the business users of IT systems really need and to guide the project to meet those needs. Adults don't always understand you (even though they were once kids), and children today face increasing pressure to be, look, or act a certain way. Written in the voice of a girl on the cusp of becoming a teenager, The Truth provides young girls with an opportunity to see how a girl, who is in many ways like themselves, handles her toughest problems and most personal thoughts. Each new page brings forth a discussion to help girls handle everyday problems: How do you survive a bully? How do you handle a crush on a boy? What can you do about relentless teasing by your peers? What really matters as you grow older? In a positive and supportive diary-entry format, Dr. Barbara Becker Holstein encourages tween girls to carry the most precious parts of themselves into adulthood. A great book for mothers and daughters to read together, The Truth is aimed to improve communication, understanding, and self-esteem for young girls as they enter the rocky road of teenager-dom. Sky Pony Press, with our Good Books, Racehorse and Arcade imprints, is proud to publish a broad range of books for young readers--picture books for small children, chapter books, books for middle grade readers, and novels for young adults. Our list includes bestsellers for children who love to play Minecraft; stories told with LEGO bricks; books that teach lessons about tolerance, patience, and the environment, and much more. While not every title we publish becomes a New York Times bestseller or a national bestseller, we are committed to books on subjects that are sometimes overlooked and to authors whose work might not otherwise find a home. (This title is available on demand: expected date of dispatch will be 7-10 working days once ordered) When Mom tells Logan that Java is joining his soccer team, the Purple Wombats, he's not thrilled. It's a lot of work teaching his new robot cousin how to act like a human--and keeping him out of trouble--and Logan needs a break. Still, being programmed for success means that Java's also great at scoring. He might just turn the Wombats into a championship team, beating Sherry and Jerry Silverspoon and their Red Polar Bears...if he'd just let the other kids play, too. After being replaced as the Wombats' MVP, Logan's had enough. But when Java gets wet and goes on the fritz, can the whole team--even a short-circuiting Java--come together to score the winning goal? The second in a fantastically funny new chapter book series by internationally bestselling author Nancy Krulik and her daughter, Amanda Burwasser, Soccer Shocker is destined to win tons of fans.
