But who died, Sebastian or his best friend Bruno? When Ross Buchanan is forced to resign as chairman of the Barrington Shipping Company, Emma Clifton wants to replace him. But Don Pedro Martinez intends to install his puppet, the devious Major Alex Fisher, in order to destroy the Barrington family firm just as the company plans to build its new luxury liner, the MV Buckingham. Back in London, Harry and Emma's adopted daughter wins a scholarship to the Slade Academy of Art where she falls in love with a fellow student, Clive Bingham, who asks her to marry him. Both families are delighted until Priscilla Bingham, Jessica's future mother-in-law, has a visit from an old friend, Lady Virginia Fenwick, who drops her particular brand of poison into the wedding chalice. Then, without warning, Cedric Hardcastle, a bluff Yorkshireman who no one has come across before, takes his place on the board of Barringtons. This causes an upheaval that none of them could have anticipated, and will change the lives of every member of the Clifton and Barrington families. Hardcastle's first decision is who to support to become the next chairman of the board: Emma Clifton or Major Alex Fisher? And with that decision, the story takes yet another twist that will keep you on the edge of your seat. It is ordered on demand from our supplier and is usually dispatched within 7 - 11 working days Can Gameknight999 survive a Minecraft journey one hundred years into the past? This adventure series is created especially for readers who love the fight of good vs. evil, magical academies like Hogwarts in the Harry Potter saga, and games like Minecraft, Terraria, and Pokemon GO. A freak thunderstorm strikes just as Gameknight999 is activating his father's digitizer to re-enter Minecraft. Sparks flash across his vision as he is sucked into the game...and when the smoke clears he's arrived safely. But it doesn't take long to realize that things in the Overworld are very different. Gameknight sees the same blocky terrain and square clouds as usual, but almost everything else has changed. His friends are nowhere to be found. His castle has disappeared and the village he calls home is missing its defenses and fortified wall. Even stranger, no one seems to know who he is. The User-that-is-not-a-user realizes he's been accidentally sent a hundred years into the past, back to the time of the historic Great Zombie Invasion. None of his friends have even been born yet. But that might be the least of Gameknight999's worries, because travelling back in time also means that the evil virus Herobrine, the scourge of Minecraft, is still alive...Sky Pony Press, with our Good Books, Racehorse and Arcade imprints, is proud to publish a broad range of books for young readers--picture books for small children, chapter books, books for middle grade readers, and novels for young adults. Our list includes bestsellers for children who love to play Minecraft; stories told with LEGO bricks; books that teach lessons about tolerance, patience, and the environment, and much more. While not every title we publish becomes a New York Times bestseller or a national bestseller, we are committed to books on subjects that are sometimes overlooked and to authors whose work might not otherwise find a home. It is ordered on demand from our supplier and is usually dispatched within 4 - 8 working days Before the Malazan Empire, there was a time that set the stage for all those tales yet to be told...The winter is bitter. Civil war threatens Kurald Galain for the warrior Urusander's army has begun its march on the city of Kharkanas. Led by the ruthless Hunn Raal, it intends to cast aside Mother Dark's consort, Draconus, and set Urusander himself on the throne beside the Living Goddess. Those who would stand in the way of the rebels lie scattered and weakened - leaderless since Anomander went in search of an estranged brother. In his stead, Silchas Ruin resolves to gather the Houseblades of the Highborn families to him, and to resurrect the legendary Hust Legion, but time is not on his side. Far to the west, an unlikely army musters. It seeks an enemy without form, in a place none can find. And yet Hood's call has been heard and the long-abandoned city of Omtose Phellack is now home to a rabble of new arrivals: Dog-Runners from the south, Jheck warriors, and blue-skinned strangers from across the Western Sea have come to offer Hood their swords. From the distant mountains and isolated valleys of the North, Thel Akai arrive to pledge themselves in this seemingly impossible war. Soon, they will set forth with weapons drawn under the banners of the living in pursuit of Death itself. Such events presage chaos, and now magic bleeds into this realm. Unconstrained, mysterious and savage, it begins to run loose and wild and following its scent, seeking the places of wounding and hurt - new and ancient entities gather. In a world becoming rotten with sorcery, can honour truly exist? Features Summary The winter is bitter. Unabridged value reproduction of THE PRINCE, by Niccolo Machiavelli and translated by N. H. Thomson for a Harvard series, is game theory from the year 1513. THE PRINCE is divided into 26 chapters covering all the steps of power, be it in the office or across continents. Topics include various forms of power (mixed, heredity), how power is acquired (with help, through criminal acts), and important aspects of power (bearing, flatters, secretaries). No student of influence should be without this historic philosophy book on leadership. Amazon.com Review When Lorenzo de' Medici seized control of the Florentine Republic in 1512, he summarily fired the Secretary to the Second Chancery of the Signoria and set in motion a fundamental change in the way we think about politics. The person who held the aforementioned office with the tongue-twisting title was none other than Niccol² Machiavelli, who, suddenly finding himself out of a job after 14 years of patriotic service, followed the career trajectory of many modern politicians into punditry. Unable to become an on-air political analyst for a television network, he only wrote a book. But what a book The Prince is. Its essential contribution to modern political thought lies in Machiavelli's assertion of the then revolutionary idea that theological and moral imperatives have no place in the political arena. "It must be understood," Machiavelli avers, "that a prince... cannot observe all of those virtues for which men are reputed good, because it is often necessary to act against mercy, against faith, against humanity, against frankness, against religion, in order to preserve the state." With just a little imagination, readers can discern parallels between a 16th-century principality and a 20th-century presidency. --Tim Hogan --This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition. Read more Review [Machiavelli] can still engage our attention with remarkable immediacy, and this cannot be explained solely by the appeal of his ironic observations on human behaviour. Perhaps the most important thing is the way he can compel us to reflect on our own priorities and the reasoning behind them; it is this intrusion into our own defenses that makes reading him an intriguing experience. As a scientific exponent of the political art Machiavelli may have had few followers; it is as a provocative rhetorician that he has had his real impact on history. from the Introduction by Dominic Baker-Smith --This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition. A new book based on a groundbreaking cross-generational study reveals both greater freedom and new constraints for men and women in their work and family lives. Stew Friedman, founding director of The Wharton School's Work/Life Integration Project, studied two generations of Wharton college students as they graduated: Gen Xers in 1992 and Millennials in 2012. The cross-generational study produced a stark discovery - the rate of graduates who plan to have children has dropped by nearly half over the past 20 years. At the same time, men and women are now more aligned in their attitudes about dual-career relationships, and they are opting out of parenthood in equal proportions. But their reasons for doing so are quite different. In his new book, "Baby Bust: New Choices for Men and Women in Work and Family," Friedman draws on this unique research to explain why so many young people are not planning to become parents. He reveals good news, that there is a greater freedom of choice now, and bad, that new constraints are limiting people's options. In light of these present realities, he offers ideas for what we can do as a society, in our organizations, and for ourselves to make it easier for men and women to choose the lives they want. In this book, Friedman addresses: + How views about work and family have changed in the past 20 years + Why men and women have different reasons for opting out of parenthood + How family has been redefined + Why we are all now part of a revolution in work and family + What choices we face in our social and educational policy + How organizations and individuals - especially men - can spur cultural change In the debates on work and family, people of all generations are calling for a reasoned, thoughtful, research-driven contribution to the discussion. In "Baby Bust," Friedman offers just that: an astute assessment of how far we have come and where we need to go from here. Features Summary Lean in. Opt out. Have it all. None of the above. Author(s): Lieut-Col. J.H. Patterson, D.S.O.  Title:      The Man-Eaters of Tsavo and other East African Adventures (with illustrations)  ISBN: none  Publisher/place: Macmillan and Co, London  This Edition: first edition, second printing  Year of Publication:  1947  First Published: 1907  Binding: hardcover Dustjacket: none, missing (dustjackets were usually discarded in those days)  Number of pages:  350  Weight: 403g  Condition:   Book has a lot of damage unfortunately.  Cover cloths have wear around the edges, with especially heavy wear at the head and tail of spine - previous owner's stuck it down with sellotape, which left behind some glue stains. End-pages have split.  Many of the pages have wrinkled, most likely from getting wet/high humidity.  The back end-page has bad wear - looks like something was stuck on and ripped off.  The text block is still in good condition, stitching/binding is intact and sound, no loose or missing pages, all signatures still in place.  Please see pictures, as these form part of the description.
