Succulent plants, also known as succulents or fat plants, are water-retaining plants adapted to arid climates or soil conditions. Succulent plants store water in their leaves, stems, and also in roots. Geophytes that survive unfavourable periods by dying back to underground storage organs such as tuberous roots, corms, bulbs, and rhizomes, may be regarded as succulents. The storage of water often gives succulent plants a more swollen or fleshy appearance than other plants, a characteristic known as succulence. In addition to succulence, succulent plants variously have other water-saving features. Robust annual, leaves with big bladder cells, white flowers after fire in Spring. Sow Autumn. Arctotis stoechadifolia Seeds Silver Arctotis; Kusgousblom Arctotis stoechadifolia is a South African endemic species found in the Western Cape Province. A tough and fast-growing groundcover often seen in gardens around the world, Arctotis stoechadifolia surprisingly only occurs naturally along a small strip from the Cape Peninsula to the West Coast. A sprawling perennial, the silver arctotis forms a striking silver-grey carpet that easily covers an area of about 1.2 m wide, with upright shoots and flowers standing about 350 mm high. The base of the plants become woody with age, but the long, spreading stems and leaves are soft, woolly and slightly sticky with a very strong bitter-sweet smell when touched. The white felted leaves are long and narrow (lance-shaped) with the edges slightly toothed or serrated. The showy flowers are large, single daisies with long, creamy to light yellow petals that are marked with red/maroon underneath. The centre of the flowers is black. Flowering for a few months from spring to summer (September-December), it creates quite a show with masses of flowers. Typical for Arctotis, the flowers only open with sunlight; the flowerheads curve down as they start to seed, only straightening up when the seed is ready to be blown away by the wind. The big, fluffy seeds ripen quickly within weeks after flowering and are easy to collect as they loosen and fall from the seed head. span> The bid amount is for 1 Seed Growing Instructions will be sent to your email. Bolusanthus, belonging to the Fabaceae family, is a monotypic genus, meaning it only has one species, namely Bolusanthus speciosus, within the genus. The name Bolusanthus honours Harry Bolus, who was a South African botanist and founder of the Cape Town Bolus Herbarium; speciosus means beautiful or showy in Latin. Some of its common names include Tree Wisteria, Vanwykshout and Elephant wood. The latter common name was given in reference to its hard timber. Originally this attractive indigenous tree was prized for its hard timber, which makes beautiful furniture, rather than its stunning flowers.  The tree wisteria is certainly one of the most spectacular of our indigenous trees when in flower, mimicking the splendour of the jacaranda, which unfortunately is proving to be an invader species in South Africa. Instead of planting the invasive jacaranda trees from Argentina rather try the indigenous Bolusanthus speciosus with it magnificent purple blooms. The gorgeous clusters of flowers are followed by thin pods that hang in bunches. It is a fast-growing, decorative and small to medium-sized deciduous tree that also makes a very attractive bonsai subject.  It is an ideal tree to grace a medium to small garden, as it never grows too big. It can be grown in a container and looks spectacular on any sunny patio. Propagation from seed is easy and straightforward.
