Even a cursory glance at the news is enough to convince us that the world is falling into chaos. But we haven't seen anything that compares to what will happen in the final events leading to the second coming of Jesus Christ. For anyone who longs to know what the future holds--and especially for those who look for a glimmer of hope in our broken world--highly respected pastor and Bible teacher Bryant Wright offers a book that shows God has not lost control over his creation. In fact, he has a sovereign plan that includes ultimate victory for the church and the salvation of his people, Israel. God's timeless promises offer hope to believers who are grieved at the state of the world. Wright carefully illuminates the signs of the times that point toward his glorious appearing and millennial reign, and answers common questions, such as: - What does the Bible say about the antichrist? - What will be the future of Israel? - Where is Armageddon, what will happen there, and why? From the Back Cover "The future is bright because Jesus is coming again. This work will get you ready for that glorious day."--Daniel L. Akin, president of Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary Even a cursory glance at the news is enough to convince us that the world is falling into chaos. But God is still in control of his creation--and he keeps his promises. In fact, he has a sovereign plan that includes ultimate victory for the church and the salvation of his people, Israel. The Stage Is Set carefully illuminates the signs of the times that point toward Christ's glorious appearing and millennial reign, answering questions you have about the identity of the antichrist, the future of Israel, the location of Armageddon, and more. He is coming. Soon. And his people must be ready. Are you? "Bryant Wright has done a remarkable job jolting faithful believers into the realization that The Stage Is Set for the end times. Don't just read this book. Pass it on!"--Michael Youssef, PhD, author of Jesus, Jihad, and Peace "Insightful. Hopeful. Needed. In a world that seems to be crumbling around us, The Stage Is Set reminds us that God paints on a canvas bigger than we can see or imagine. If you have ever questioned what will happen when Jesus returns, this book is for you!"--Louie Giglio, director of the Passion Movement; author of The Comeback Bryant Wright is pastor of the 8,500-member Johnson Ferry Baptist Church in Marietta, Georgia, and past president of the Southern Baptist Convention. The Heart of Redness In the mid-nineteenth century, in the village of Qolorha on the eastern Cape coast, a girl called Nongqawuse brought a message from the ancestors to the amaXhosa people: to slaughter their cattle and destroy their cropts, so that the ancestors would return from the dead, bringing with them new cattle and crops, and drive the white colonists into the sea. People were divided between Believers, who slew their cattle, and Unbelievers, who did not. The prophecies did not come true, and the power of the amaXhosa people was shattered. One hundred and fifty years later, the feud between the Believers and the Unbelievers still festers in Qolorha, as the villagers take opposing sides on every issue. When the village is faced witha plan to build a casino and holiday resort, the feud threatens to erupt into open conflict. Moving betwen the worlds of contemporary characters and their nineteenth-century ancestors, Zakes Mda's new novel is a triumph of imaginative and historical writing, showing how the past continues to live in the present. Our faith is shaped by what we believe. Retired Lutheran pastor, Wanda McNeill, has a faith shaped by her bone-deep belief in the Incarnation, in our identity as children of God, and in the saving message of the Cross. She believes these are not just theological concepts, but can be the lived experience of every Christian. In 20 reflections culled from nearly 30 years of preaching, and arranged by liturgical seasons, she speaks heart to heart to believers to help them understand how they can experience faith in this deeply personal way. About the Author Rev. Wanda McNeill, a graduate of Lutheran Theological Seminary in Gettysburg, Penn., served at the Lutheran Church of the Reformation in Washington, D.C., for 17 years, where she was also the co-founder of a social justice ministry that offered job-readiness training to ex-offenders and welfare mothers. In addition, she served in several rural congregations until her retirement in 2014. A Doubter's Guide to the Bible is a concise account of the whole biblical narrative and the lifestyle it inspires, representing a unique and engaging framework for those observing Christianity from the outside, especially those who think there are good reasons not to believe. In this book, Dickson provides a readable and winsome Bible primer summarizing the main themes in scripture, and addresses tough questions such as "How can we read the creation account in Genesis in light of modern science? " and, "how do we approach Old Testament law when it appears inconsistent and irrelevant?" By presenting the whole of the Bible as an account of God's promise to restore humanity to Himself, and humanity to one another and to creation, Dickson allows believers and skeptics alike to gain insight into why the Bible has been a compelling, life-changing, and magnetic force throughout the ages. (This title is available on demand: expected date of dispatch will be 4-7 working days once ordered) In keeping with the Pillar New Testament Commentary s distinctive character, this volume by James R. Edwards on Luke gives special attention to the Third Gospel s vocabulary and historical setting, its narrative purpose and unique themes, and its theological significance for the church and believers today. Though Luke is often thought to have a primarily Gentile focus, Edwards counterbalances that perspective by citing numerous evidences of Luke s overarching interest in depicting Jesus as the fulfillment of God s providential work in the history of Israel, and he even considers the possibility that Luke himself was a Jew. In several excursuses Edwards discusses particular topics, including Luke s infancy narratives, the mission of Jesus as the way of salvation, and Luke s depiction of the universal scope of the gospel. While fully conversant with all the latest scholarship, Edwards writes in a lively, fluent style that will commend this commentary to ministers, students, scholars, and many other serious Bible readers." Like Monet, who was his first inspiration, Moses Tladi was a gardener and an artist. Born in remote Sekhukhuneland, east of Pretoria, South Africa, the son of a medicine-man who made a living by working in iron, and a mother who was a gifted potter, Tladi in his early childhood herded cattle in the dramatic hill-country around his home. His parents had become ""believers"" under the influence of the Berlin Missionary Society and he was educated at the Lobethal mission, at ga Phaahla. Tladi, like many young men of the time, went to the cities in search of work. It is not known how he encountered Herbert Read, but in the mid 1920s he found employment in Johannesburg as gardener to Read at his property in the fashionable suburb of Parktown. Tladi's talent was discovered by Herbert Read's daughters who were schoolgirls in the mid-1920s. Read took Tladi under his wing, and introduced him to the collector and philanthropist Howard Pim. Read and Pim promoted Tladi at public exhibitions from 1929 onwards. Pim died in1934, but Tladi continued to flourish, with Read as his patron until the outbreak of the Second World War." I thank my God I speak in tongues more than you all. spoken by the apostle Paul in 1 Corinthians 14:18 Almost 40 years ago, John and Elizabeth Sherills book, They Speak with Other Tongues, ushered tens of thousands into the life-changing experience of speaking in tongues and the dynamic result of a closer walk with Jesus. In Chavdas new book The Hidden Power of Speaking in Tongues, we are once again reminded and carefully taught about the incredible possibilities available in speaking in tongues. This spiritual gift, much maligned and controversial in our day, was a vibrant and necessary part of the worship and intercession of the early Church. It is an experience that hungry believers long to rediscover here in the twenty-first- century Church, as millions search for a more meaningful understanding and relationship with their Lord. As he softly removes the mystique and mystery overshadowing this glorious gift, Chavda challenges the Body of Christ to pursue afresh the secret dynamic of speaking in tongues. Subtitle: How to Read the Bible Author: A. N. Wilson Publisher: Atlantic Books (1988) ISBN-10: 1848879601 ISBN-13: 9781848879607 Condition: Very Good Binding: Softcover Pages: 212 Dimensions: 23.2 x 15.2 x 1.8 cm +++ by A. N. Wilson +++ From renowned historian, biographer, and novelist A.N. Wilson comes a deeply personal, literary, and historical exploration of the Bible. In  The Book of the Peopl e, A. N. Wilson explores how readers and thinkers have approached the Bible, and how it might be read today. Charting his own relationship with the Bible over a lifetime of writing, Wilson argues that it remains relevant even in a largely secular society, as a philosophical work, a work of literature, and a cultural touchstone that the western world has answered to for nearly two thousand years: Martin Luther King was ''reading the Bible'' when he started the Civil Rights movement, as was Michelangelo when he painted the fresco cycles in the Sistine Chapel. Wilson challenges the way fundamentalists -- whether believers or nonbelievers -- have misused the Bible, either by neglecting and failing to recognize its cultural significance or by using it as a weapon against those with whom they disagree. Erudite, witty, and accessible, The Book of the People  seeks to reclaim the Good Book as our seminal work of literature and a book for the imagination.
