More about the micro light - During the late 1970s and early 1980s, many people sought to be able to fly affordably. As a result, many aviation authorities set up definitions of lightweight, slow-flying aero planes that could be subject to minimum regulation. The resulting aero planes are commonly called ultra light or micro light, although the weight and speed limits are rarely the same between any two countries. In most affluent countries, micro lights or ultra lights now account for about 20% of the civil aircraft fleet. Ultra light/micro light aircraft were once regarded as "flying clotheslines", since early aircraft were typically completely open, wire, tube and rag aircraft – these aircraft were seldom used for anything more than local area flying. However, ultra lights are rapidly transforming into high performance aircraft, capable of very respectable speed and range. In recent years there has been a dramatic rise in the number of General Aviation pilots flying high performance ultra lights due to the cost benefits. If you are unsure of small aircraft and your ability to accept flying in one, then experience an Introductory Flight with a professional flight instructor. Your instructor will spend an approximate hour, one on one with you going over the aircraft using a checklist approach followed by a brief and then takes you to the skies where you will be able to handle the controls and get the feeling of this exciting way of life. This is a basic introduction where you are exposed to the procedures of flying rather than a lesson in flying. You will be allowed to take control of the aircraft but only during flight and not for take-off or landing (at the pilot's discretion of course!). You will participate with the general handling of the aircraft and learn the technical jargon in terms of the flaps, left and right etc. Your flight path will take in some world class aerial scenery that our Mother City has to offer. Powered paragliding (PPG), Motorised paragliding or Paramotoring as it is called in different places, is a revolution in the world of aviation. This amazingly simply and safe way of flying is taking the world by storm! We fly tandems on many of Cape Town's beaches and wineland areas for the same price as free-flying! The Paramotor is like an aircraft engine, except worn backpack-style and designed to change a paraglider wing to a Powered Paragliding (PPG). We often take clients for standard or epic, long flights in the early mornings and late afternoons. Give it a try, you will love it! This activity takes place in CPT, 7 days per week, subject to availability and ideal weather conditions. No experience necessary.
