AIRLIFT Synopsis: They wanted to control the world... The Berlin Airlift involved a clash between some of the strongest personalities of the twentieth century: Truman, Stalin and the American General Clay. When Europe is carved up between Western and Soviet powers at the end of World War II, there is one western outpost deep in the heart of Soviet-controlled territory: Although Germany has been literally torn down the middle, the former capital Berlin lies in the center of the Sovietoccupied eastern sector – and Berlin is jointly administered by all four victorious Allies:France, Britain, America and Russia. By , the three western powers have considerable military forces stationed in their sectors of Berlin. Stalin tries to force them to leave. He mounts a massive land blockade, using a huge occupation army to physically prevent food, fuel and other essential supplies from reaching Berlin. In a word - blackmail, on an enormous scale, and involving the lives of millions of innocent people. So now the crucial question is whether the Allies, led by the USA, will stand up to the Soviets or give in. A military response could trigger World War III, and even lead to a nuclear exchange.   Starring: Rob Brown Robert Lee   Category: Action, War   Age Restriction: 13 VS

When a German victory became impossible, the July 1944 conspirators plotted to bring a quick end to the war, hoping to negotiate a peace with the Western allies and possibly to join them in a war against Russia. Because the Allies would not negotiate with Hitler, the plotters planned to assassinate him and seize control of the government, using the Replacement Army to overcome the S.S. and the Nazi Party. This army would also maintain order within Germany, a task that would require more than half-a-million trained men. The conspirators convinced key Replacement Army officers to withhold men from the Field Army in the spring of 1944 in preparation for taking over the country. The result was a German army that lacked enough reserve divisions to counter the invasion of France and the Red Army attack in Russia. Although the plotters failed to kill Hitler, they hastened the war's end by weakening the German army. Dunn examines the 1944 July Plot from a manpower and logistics...

Australia 1 dollar Famous Battles Tobruk 1941 Silver Coloured Proof Coin 2011 Edition Technical Specs Presentation Country:   Australia Metal Purity:    ¿Silver 0.999 Box:   Yes Year of Issue:   2011 Weight:   1 Oz CoA:   Yes Face Value:   1 dollar Dimensions:   40.60     Quality:   Proof     Mintage:   5000   New coin with capsule, CoA and box The Siege of Tobruk was a lengthy confrontation between Axis and Allied forces in North Africa during the Western Desert Campaign of the Second World War. The Siege started on 11 April 1941, when; Tobruk was attacked by an Italian-German force under Lieutenant General Rommel and continued forj 240 days. The Siege was only a couple of months old when the renegade Lord Haw Haw, broadcasting from Berlin, said the Allies were "caught like rats in a trap". The Allied soldiers accepted the title with alacrity and became the renowned 'Rats of Tobruk'. The blockade continued for eight months, during which time the men endured intense bombing raids, entombed in their desert fortress. However, the Allies held their ground and defied the seemingly unstoppable blitzkrieg war of the Germans. In addition, the Royal Navy and Allied artillery played a crucial role in Tobruk's defence in providing gunfire support, military supplies, fresh troops, and aid in the evacuation of the wounded.Maintaining control of Tobruk was crucial to the Allied war effort and marked a turning point in the Second World War. The Siege of Tobruk was finally lifted in December 1941.There were those that could not answer those longed-for evacuation orders. Casualties from all sides of the conflict lie in windswept cemeteries around Tobruk. ____________________________________________________  Feel free to e-mail me with any questions.
