Bob Connolly was born in Paterson, New Jersey in 1907. He attended Columbia University and briefly studied journalism before becoming a cartoonist. He moved to South Africa in 1937 right before World War II as part of a one year contract. He stayed there the rest of his life. His work has appeared in many South African outlets, but his most influential works included “Little Man”. This character represented an average South African.
