Nine Flames.  Author: Ken Anderson. This is an account of the role of the South African Sappers in the Campaigns in East Africa, North Africa, and Italy during the Second World War.  It is not an official history but focuses instead on the personal experiences of members of units of the South African Engineer Corps during the War.  The book comprises numerous full-page monochrome reproductions of works by the South African war artist Ben Burrage. Published by Purnell & Sons (SA), Johannesburg / Cape Town, 1964, 282pp. Hardcover, blue with gilt lettering to spine / Sapper Crest on front cover.  No dust jacket. Slight age-discolouration of spine.  Binding intact.    Owner’s name stamp, and handwritten inscription of original (?) owner on reverse of front cover.
