The jewel in its crown is the Mille Miglia, now available to gamers on PlayStation. Often described as 'the most beautiful race in the world', it was originally held between 1927 and 1957 over 1000 miles of Italian streets and idyllic countryside. Racing car legends such as Enzo Ferrari and the Maserati brothers hand built cars to take part. Thousands would line the streets hoping to catch a glimpse of BMW's, Mercedes, Alfa Romeos and Bugattis. Not only were the cars sensational - the drivers were too. The biggest names in racing, such as Fangio, Ascari and Nuvolari, took part. In 1955 Sir Stirling Moss set a record that was never to be broken. Driving in his Mercedes 300 SLR, he completed the course in 10 hours, 7 minutes and 48 seconds.
