The game does have variety in its favour, with tons of mini-games and lots of vehicles and weapons to commandeer. Indeed, the various levels are commendably interactive, even if far too many of them are interspersed with Crash Bandicoot style out-of-screen platform sections. There's also a bizarre obsession with crockery: health pots, explosive urns, hint vases and more litter this game world. Unfortunately, the skittish controls and poor level design ensure that running and jumping around the game world is far less fun than it should be, especially with your irritating yo-yo/grappling hook constantly causing you to get caught in explosions you really didn't think you were anywhere near. With top quality titles like Jak and Daxter and Ratchet & Clank around, Haven is really only worth trying if you already have all these games and desperately want to play something similar--but not half as good. -- David Jenkins
