GENERAL HORATIO GATES AMERICA'S FIRST MEDALS MADE OF PEWTER IN SOUTH AFRICA
General Horatio Gates is honoured on the second in the U.S. Mint's ten-piece series of reproductions of America's first Medals, voted by the Continental Congress to commemorate the decisive military action of the Revolutionary War. The medal was awarded to General Horatio Gates for the defeat of British plans to isolate New England by occupying the Hudson Valley. The pewter token is the size of an U.S. Silver Dollar. Comes in the original holder with a brief history of medal and General Horatio Gates. The medal is approximately 38mm in diameter.
