A SILVER COIN FROM THE WRECK OF THE MERESTEIN. IN CAPE TOWN

A silver coin ( Silver Rider?) in a piece of conglomerate with buckshot recovered from the wreck of the Merestein (Merestejin) under difficult conditions by divers of The Atlantic Underwater Club in the early 's. The Merestein was on her way to the Dutch East indies with a mixed cargo when she was wrecked off Jutten Island, Saldanha bay in April . Amongst that cargo were silver coins withdrawn from circulation in Holland in the 's, for re-use in Java and Borneo. Since then the silver coins have become highly collectable world wide. What makes this one so unique is that it is set in a piece of conglomerate with buckshot, making it "a one of a kind" and thus extremely rare and scarce.
