3 AFRICAN TRIBAL SHIELDS FROM THE OROMO PEOPLE OF ETHIOPIA IN SOUTH AFRICA
Made in Ethiopia by the Oromo people, the shield is made of extremely thick, tough hide (possibly from a hippopotamus or, less likely, an elephant) that has been cut into a circle then formed into a convex shape with a crested anterior aspect and various radiating reinforced struts. The hide was then pierced to allow the insertion of a central handle. They are in very good condition considering they are antiques. I have seen them selling for around £.
