The east wind (Hau Rawhiti) brings on its back the players and supporters from the East Coast, Poverty Bay, Hawkes Bay and Wairarapa Bush unions while the west wind (Hau-a-uru) brings with it Whanganui, and Horowhenua / Kapiti. The north wind (Hau Raki) brings Manawatu and the strong southerly wind (Hau Tonga) is Wellington. The convergence of these 4 winds is the eye of the Hurricane (Te Hau Awhio), while calm in itself, has the potential to lay waste to all around it.
