1994 PRESIDENTIAL INAUGURATION R5 COIN IN SOUTH AFRICA
On May 10 1994, Nelson Mandela was inaugurated in Pretoria as South Africa’s first democratically elected president. The South African Mint commemorated this significant and historic event with the minting of a PROOF (PF) R5 coin with the Union Buildings featured on the reverse, and the old coat of arms on the obverse of the coin. This was also the first R5 coin for South Africa. This signified the birth of the South African Democracy. The coins come encased in a display box to protect from grubby fingers and coin flipping enthusiasts. This is a rare coin that depicts a big part of the celebrated South African heritage, an heirloom to be passed down through generations
