1930 ORANGE FREE STATE CENTRAL AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY LARGE IN SOUTH AFRICA
A Large Silver Award Medal from the Orange Free State Central Agricultural Society. Won by H.A. Melle in 1930 for his Champion Large Black Boar, 'KEDINGTON IMPERIAL'. Made by J.A. Restall of Birmingham. Further information at South African Medals. Sterling silver. Stamped on the edge with the maker's mark: "JAR" and the Birmingham sterling silver hallmarks for 1930. Diameter 45.5 mm. Mass 39.3 gm. The Large Black Pig is thought to be almost extinct and in South Africa it is unlikely that any purebred animals still exist. Note: I am listing another award medal to this Free State breeder of Large Black Pigs.
