1910 18 CARAT YELLOW GOLD LONGINES OPEN-FACE MECHANICAL IN SOUTH AFRICA

This spectacularly rare and incredible antique (1910) 18ct yellow gold "Longines" Grand Prix Paris open-face mechanical pocket watch/ trench watch is a superb find and is in remarkable stunning condition. The watch has just been serviced and polished by our watchmaker. We contacted Longines in Switzerland who advised us as follows: "The original serial number 1'957'290 identifies an open face pocket watch in 18ct gold. It is fitted with a Longines manually wound mechanical movement, caliber 11.87. It was invoiced on 19 November 1910 to the company Bessire, which was at that time our agent for Belgium. So, we can deduct that some transformation have probably been done after the watch has left the company". The transformation refers to the pocket watch being turned into a "trench" style wrist watch which was all the rage in the early 20th century.
