In February 1954 the Crimean region was annexed to the UkSSR. On February 12, 1991 the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted the Law of Ukraine `On the renewal of the Crimean Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic`. On April 24, 1992 it was renamed for the Autonomous Republic of the Crimea which is an autonomous administrative and territorial unit of Ukraine and its inseparable constituent part. It is situated in the south of the state in the Crimean peninsula.
