SILVER NURSING BADGE: GREY'S HOSPITAL PIETERMARITZBURG, IN SOUTH AFRICA

A Nursing Badge from Grey's Hospital Pietermaritzburg, Natal. Used 1941-1975. Shows the Coat of Arms with the motto altered from: "The Place of the Elephant (in Zulu)" to "To Love and Serve (in Latin)". Presumably this change was in deference to the sensibilities of the larger-built nursing staff. Further information at South African Medals. Enamelled. Silver. So stamped on the back. Diameter 25.5 mm. Mass 8.6 gm. Locking brooch pin and loop for safety chain on the back.
