RHODES MUST FALL WOODCUT ART PRINT IN SOUTH AFRICA
RhodesMustFall, 2019 Woodcut on Fabriano Art Paper 60cm x 80 cm In making of this artwork, the artist, Hermanus, Lwandile, has created a depiction of a chain crane removing the statue of Cecil John Rhodes. The Statue of John Rhodes was in the centre of University of Cape Town in South Africa. He decided to use Table Mountain as a background symbolising that the removal of Cecil John Rhodes was happening in Cape Town. The artwork seeks to address the removal of Cecil John Rhodes. In this artwork the sky is clear showing the removal on Cecil John Rhodes was happening during the day. In addition the removal of the statue was about the transformation at the University of Cape Town. The artwork explores the removal of black history as is it was an act of violence in contradiction of black students, workers and staff by black I refer to all people of colour. The statue of Cecil John Rhodes was therefore the normal initial point of #RhodesMustFall movement. PLEASE NOTE: Orders are ready for posting in 7 days maximum. They are shipped in a cardboard tube.
