RARE TELEGRAPHIC USAGE - PERFORATION HOLES - OPENING OF IN SOUTH AFRICA
Rare pair of 1910 King George V Opening of Parliament 2 and a half penny - used telegraphically - with CANCELLED hole perforation defacer - A and N of CANCELLED clearly visible especially at rear of stamp. These telegraphic perforations are found onTransvaal and Union King's Heads but are rare on the Opening of Parliament stamp. These stamps should have been destroyed after storage of telegrams but some have survived as they were clandestinely sold to dealers. This pair comes from the stock of an Austrian stamp dealer Adolf Brehovsky (Leopold Traub). If anyone is interested in telegraphic stamps and cancellations, please let me know as I'd love to grow the interest in these rare stamps. If you are interested in learning more about the perforation holes / defacer have a look at Jan Beukes article in SA Philatelist December 2014 and GW Reynolds great article - 'Union of SA: Notes on used high values and telegraphic cancellations' in SA Philatelist v 1no 7 Pages 95 - 98 (1923). My recommendation is that all stamps be sent via Registered Post as I will not be responsible for those sent without Registered tracking. International rates will be confirmed based upon the destination country. Successful bidding!
