Parallel text in Afrikaans and English. "These tableaux were discovered under the wall paper of an old theatre in Rotterdam in the late 1960’s. The tableaux comprising 2000 painted tiles were removed from the walls and carefully checked, restored, varnished and shipped to South Africa where they were  exhibited at the T.P.A. Building in Pretoria. The Theatre in Rotterdam called The Transvalia was built at the end of 1899 at a time of considerable European interest and sympathy for the Boer cause. The first owner of the theatre hit upon the idea of decorating the foyer with tiles on which the heroic deeds of the Boers would be artistically immortalised. Hiding in buildings and mosques, wearing civilian clothes, and spread out for over a mile, Saddam Hussein's militants rained down bullets and rocket propelled grenades on the 1 st Battalion. But when the smoke of the eight-hour battle cleared, only one Marine had lost his life. Some said the 1 st Battalion was incredibly lucky. But in the hearts and minds of the Marines who were there, there was no question. God had brought them miraculously through that battle. PART 1 - US MARINE CORPS VIETNAM 1969-72, ISRAELI DEFENCE FORCE 1975-77 Dave Barr had had a penchant for trouble since day one, born in the back of a car, shooting by the time he was five, riding a motorbike at seven, Dave regularly got into fights at school. The only reading Dave would do growing up involved motorbikes, shooting, westerns and the military. After reading Battle Cry by Leon Uris aged 12 he knew he wanted to be a Marine. Following a series of menial jobs, working at a barbers and in service stations, at 17 he joined the Marines before shipping out to Vietnam.
