Excellent condition. Paperback. SAPO postage with tracking number: R55.00. Extra items free. This is an entirely fresh and original book about Jesus, the Jesus of devotion, the Jesus within. Here are fifty images of Jesus drawn from the gospels, each image constituting a chapter of the book. After a brief account of Jesus and his times, the author introduces the book and how to read it. Many of the images are conventional -- messiah, prophet, Son of God, exorcist, good shepherd, and so on -- but others have a strongly contemporary edge to them -- the wild man, the family therapist, the one who refuses to compete. The style is simple and direct, and psychologically in tune with our times. The author, Anselm Grun, has the rare gift of simple communication, of bringing Jesus alive to men and women of today. Each chapter is short enough to be used as the basis for meditation or lectio divina.

Subtitle: Post-War Sculptures and Assemblages in South Africa Author: Elizabeth Rankin Publisher: Witwatersrand University Press (1994) Edition: First Edition ISBN-10: 1868142574 ISBN-13: 9781868142576 Condition: Very Good - Slight wear to cover edges Binding: Softcover Pages: 206 Dimensions: 28 x 22.5 x 1 cm Weight: 0.81 Price: 200 +++ by Elizabeth Rankin +++ The post-war period has seen a remarkable development in sculpture in bronze, steel and other metals in South Africa. Economic growth, the establishment of bronze foundries and developments in new media at art schools stimulated sculptural production amongst white sculptors, who drew on modernist trends from Europe and America. Excluded from art institutions, black artists rarely had the opportunity to share in international aspirations, but, making use of unusual media and informal training, produced innovative works. Images of Metal explores these developments and offers over twenty individual essays on sculptors represented in the University of the Witwatersrand collections. From wire toys and representational bronzes, through modernist steel constructions, to politically charged multi-media assemblages, the work show the common history and the creative diversity of sculpture in South Africa.

This item is sold brand new. It is ordered on demand from our supplier and is usually dispatched within 6 - 13 working days In 1788, nearly fifteen-hundred people on eleven sailing ships came ashore at Port Jackson in Australia after a gruelling eight month journey from England. This collection of vessels later became known as the First Fleet, and those who sailed in them were the community who established the first European colony in Australia. The Art of the First Fleet depicts the natural history of this extraordinary land, the people and culture of the local indigenous population and the events that marked these initial formative years. The collection, now housed in the Natural History Museum, provides an invaluable record of the wildlife and environment, people and events, as seen through the eyes of the colonists who laid the foundations for the European settlement of Australia. The artists' drawings of the people and culture of the Eora people, the local indigenous population of the area, provide the only lasting visual record of their lives. While images of plants and animals were not always technically accurate, they made a significant contribution to the development of science, allowing experts in Britain to be able to identify and name a large number of new species. They remain an invaluable record of the artists' attempts to make sense and order of this new land. Features Summary In 1788, nearly 1,500 people on 11 sailing ships came ashore at Port Jackson in Australia, and those who sailed in them were the community who established the first European colony in Australia... Hardback. English. Publisher: Fourth Wall Publishers. 2011. New. Figuring Faith: Images of Belief in Africa arose from an exhibition of the same name at the Standard Bank Gallery in 2006, curated by Fiona Rankin-Smith. The book documents and extends the exhibition, bringing together the debates and discussions on faith and art that the exhibition gave rise to, and shedding light on the ways in which art interprets, exemplifies and challenges belief and ritual.
