As their town is overrun by foreign forces, eight friends escape to the mountains. Calling themselves the Wolverines, this band of untrained, yet fiercely determined patriots wages an unremitting guerilla action in defence of their parents, their friends and their country.

Cassell, 2002. Book Condition: Used. This Book is in Very good Condition. Clean Copy With Light Amount of Wear. 256 pp. Summary: The impact of World War II opened the door for weak and impoverished nations to develop military means of defeating modern armies. In China, Korea, Vietnam, Palestine, Cuba, Ireland, Africa, and the former Soviet Union, where battles still rage today--indeed, all over the globe--impassioned revolutions, marked by irregular warfare, guerilla insurgency, and terrorism, turned nations upside down in the name of liberation. Vividly illustrated and packed with punch, this dynamic account of endemic violence, epic character, and the astonishing resourcefulness of commanders and combatants probes the nation in arms as a product of the Western legacy and of communism, religion, and tribal or familial loyalties. A chronology and biographies of crucial figures help delineate the lines leading backward to the prewar era.

1990 first edition hardcover with dust jacket and 403 pages in very good condition. R50 postage in SA. Before southern Africa's peace there came war. Between August 1987 and July 1988 Fidel Castro 's Cuban Revolutionary Armed Forces, the SADF, Angolan government forces directed by Soviet officers, and an Angolan opposition guerilla army trained by Red China, France and the United States, clashed in the biggest land battles in the history of black Africa. It was a war for Africa's very soul. It culminated in a peace agreement, the New York Accords, signed on 22 December 1988, which have already proved as momentously important for Africa as the 1945 Yalta Agreement between Roosevelt, Stalin and Churchill was for post-war Europe.

2001 hardcover with 240 pages as new. By Fransjohan Pretorius. R50 postage in SA. Anglo-Boer War, Anglo-Boereoorlog. Christiaan De Wet, commander of the Boer forces in the Anglo-Boer War, had the ability to lead his burghers, many of them individualists, with a strong hand, subjecting them to his stringent discipline. He was also a masterful strategist who could anticipate the moves of his opponents. But it was his ability to evade the British forces in what became known as the "First De Wet Hunt" that contributed significantly to his legendary status. Lord Roberts, Commander-in-Chief of the British forces in South Africa, believed that the capture of De Wet would lead to the end of the Anglo-Boer War. When De Wet slipped over Slabberts Nek on July 15, 1900, breaking through Lieutenant General Sir Archibald Hunter's cordon and taking with him 2,000 Free Staters, including President Steyn and the government of the Orange Free State, Roberts organized a massive pursuit. From all sides British columns entered the chase. However, from July to August, 1900, De Wet, along with 2,500 men, managed to evade the elaborate net Lord Roberts had so carefully prepared to ensnare him. In so doing, the "Boer Pimpernel" ran rings around 50,000 British troops. Significantly, De Wet's successful evasion of the British ultimately led to the adoption of guerilla tactics by the Boers. This compelling story of a watershed event in the course of the war and the colorful personality of the man behind it is masterfully told, and brings an important personal dimension to the history of the Anglo-Boer War.
